I hear that the rx7's stock turbos are water-cooled and do not need the extra idle time that a turbo timer would provide. In fact, i hear that when rx7s idle, engine temperatures rise a lot and don't help the turbos cool much.

I haven't had my car very long, im just trying to find out whats right and whats wrong.

What do you guys think about turbo timers on an FD??

is this the same for 99 spec turbos? so after a hard drive i dont need to let anything cool down?

 

Same thing, just if your pushing your car, after just take a chill lap for it to cool down.

 

You can always do what i do. My car came with a turbo timer. Depending on how i drive it depends on the length i use the timer for. I take a "chill" lap, more or less i take it easy with in a few miles from the house to help cool them off. When i get home, i turn the car off, and turn the timer off to make sure its all off. then i key on to get the timer to kick in, then i turn the key off and leave the fans off. Cheap way of using it but helps pull some more of that hot air out of the radiator. There is a fan mod that a lot of people like to do to leave the fans on after you are done driving as well.

 

I wired a switch into my centre console that by passes the relays that pull on the fans when my apexi power fc hits bout 96c.When i'm driving hard or sitting in traffic i just flick the switch,on come the fans and water temp normally sits about 83-86c.Comes in handy if your doin a bit of after hour racing too but it is always important to knock the switch off coz the next day i'm jumping my FD off a nissan micra!!!!

 

You don't need a turbo timer... just drive your car easy for a minute before you park it.

 

Thats what I used to do on hotter days. I would pop the hood, and let the fans run with the timer on. I don't bother with it anymore after installing the FC thermoswitch. The car never gets above 99c now.

 

just let your car idle at least for 10 seconds and then pop the hood after a hard drive. it gets buttfucking hot under there and the engine really needs to cool off. i recomend putting a stand up fan on top of your bay just to let it cool down faster.

 

no need for a $100 turbo timer, sitting 10 seconds londer in your FD isnt going to kill you and it's FREE!
