turbo swaps?

What turbos will directly bolt on in place of the stock ones without having to do much modification (preferably none)

first off, word up to richmond, im southside born and raised.

secondly: none unless you count the 99spec twins or aftermarket turbos(ie: pettit, BNR)

third: how did you get to 200 posts without knowing that?

i have no clue, and look at how many posts i have. i don't know because i'm trying to learn as much as i can before i buy a 7 so i don't **** one up by modifying it wrong. personally, i wouldn't replace the turbos and leave the stock cast manifold. even if i just upgraded to a set of 99spec twins, i'd go with a tubular SS manifold because of higher flow.

I was talking about aftermarket ones...ones I should be on the lookout that won't require me redoing everything especially the ecu right now. I do believe I have a blown turbo and if I'm gonna change the turbos I might as well upgrade.

if you want to change your turbos, you'll change the flow characteristics of your engine, and you'll have to get a stand-alone and upgrade a ton of stuff. if you don't want to change everything, get a set of low-mileage stock turbos. it'll be the only way to keep your stock ecu and bolt ons. if you go with a higher flowing set of twins or a single, you're going to have to upgrade your fuel system, your ic, everything.

you havent learned much j/k. There is no manifold that will work with the twins (either model) other than the stock cast one.

don't the bnr's just bolt on and you get some performance mod out of it and you don't have to update your ecu/fuel systems, etc... ? I'm wondering what other turbos out there would do the same.

The BNR's are basically modified standard twins (Completely different CHRA's and wheels however). You could possibly bolt them on and run standard boost levels to keep everything else the same. However as they flow more air, the same boost level will probably still lean your A/F out. Also you generally bolt on something like the BNR's to gain performance by increased boost and would as such need more mods elsewhere to support them!

the stock cast manifold contains the gates to control pre spool of the second turbo and the wastegate, to change to a nice twin turbo setup that still retains the sequential capability be prepared to have very deep pockets (I am trying to find funds to do this myself)

There are some other options, One workshop here in australia recently fitted twin gt30 turbos into the stock manifold somehow. without proof of his dyno charts (Although he has a good reputation, I have not seen anything, and know nothing more on this as yet!) he has a claimed 400kw output. obviously a heap of other mods are also necessary.

If you want the clean look of a SS manifold, and twin turbos the easiest way is to dump the sequential capability. I believe RX7store sells kits for this, amongst others.

As I read it, any turbo change is going to involve more than turbos (Fuel, Poss engine mods, ecu, IC, exhaust, and possibly a non-seq conversion)
Read a heap more, search posts here and on a heap of other sites for info. And keep you money in your pocket until you learn a heap more. I only know what i do from reading on here, taking notes (with a pen!!) and comparing everything.

Some other sites I have found helpful

http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/index.html

Hope that helps some..

go single!!! yeh it'l cost more but if your twins keep failing (which they will do) you'll end up spending that kinda money anyway.

Just buy some used good condition stockers and replace them. The BNRs will bolt up just fine and you can run 10 psi with no other modifications. The 99s will, of course, just bolt right up with no other modifications.

G'luck. If i had the money to re-engineer a twin turbo set-up i'd do it with a full standalone w/ options (motec & the like) rather than my PFC. I'd use the supra system instead of the FD system.

I'm not aware of any SS mani you can run the OEM twins on.

This thread is from 2005. Your advice is not very good and certainly not good enough to bring up a 2 year old thread. Please pay attention to these things before you post. You've been on this forum almost a year.

lol, I was going to say the same thing.

The RX7Store used to sell an upgraded twin turbo kit which was run non-seq (not using OEM turbos or manifold). Since the post was from 2005, most likely that's the kit he was referring to...
