turbo replacement
just got back from getting my car inspected .. the service technician told me that the turbo is leaking oil .. they recommend that i replace my turbo .. thats easier said then done .. i cant afford 4200 for new parts + labor .. they also said the car possibly has other leaks ... possible oil pan gasket and rea main seal .. ok .. now i dont know **** about cars .. but i do know i cant afford to fix this turbo problem cause i do not have the finances to back it up .. i guess my question is .. how much would it cost me to do this myself? is there a cheaper alternative? how much would it cost to rebuild the turbo myself? or can i just disable the turbo .. patch up whatever is leaking and just drive on that? any suggestions or advice would be much appreciated

Oily turbos mean you just have to keep putting oil in the filler neck. It does make a mess underneath the car, and you have to clean up the oil puddles. IMO, as long as the car remains driveable...

Man, you bought the wrong car...
You can get cheaper turbos then 4200, way way way cheaper; the dealer is NOT your friend. The RX7Store has turbos, check with them, and see if there is a local mech. that is familiar with RX7's you could have put them on.
This is not the car for you if you don't have one of two things:
1. Money to pay for parts and the $$$ for labor to get them on.
2. Money to pay for parts and the knowledge to get them on.
You will spend a small fortune on this car if you can't work on it yourself. If any of this worries you, I would sell it before its too late
But, it must be said, these cars are like a drug, you will find yourself sacrificing your life for it. Just trying to save you before you make the same mistakes us addicts already have

you should check out the classifieds section for a used set of turbos. You shouldn't have to pay more than 500 bucks for a good set. But then again, you need to know that youre dealing with a reputable person. You might also try thepartstrader.com.

If oil is leaking from the turbos check the copper washers on the bango bolts and the gaskets under the oil return lines before you replace the high dollar turbos . Any one with alittle time can reseal the oil pan . Slow down and do one step at a time , and you will save money and the car .

As duboisr says, it might just be an oil leak from the lines or gaskets. I think the chances are very good that you don't need new turbos.
Malloy is a good place, at least for parts. I don't know about service, since I've never been there or heard any reports. Since it is a dealer, though, their hands are tied somwhat in that they can only sell you new Mazda parts at new Mazda part prices. Perhaps they have determined that you really need new turbos, but I suspect they are being overly conservative in recommending turbo replacement. Yes, it will certainly stop any leaks from that area, but you might be able to stop them for far less work and money if it is just a gasket.
