Turbo coolant pipe leak?
Does anyone know if its possible to get to the hard coolant pipe between the turbo's and the LIM without pulling the turbos????
I've searched and found that you can get to the one on the outside by pulling the Y pipe, but I can't find any mention of the other hard pipe.
I've been fighting a coolant leak for a couple months now, and it finally got bad enough to actually leave a few drops on the ground.... until now its just been a smell of coolant, or a puff of steam.
With the coolant system pressurized I get a slow drip coming off the back/top of the turbos. Unfortunately I can't see enough to tell exactly what is causing it. I replaced the turbo coolant lines just a few months ago, and they are fine (double checked tonight).
At this point I'm guessing its possibly a leak on a banjo bolt? Maybe a pinhole in the hard pipe???
Any other known or common failure modes for coolant leaks on the turbos?
Thanks

Check your TB hoses. I had a leak in the one that went to my block. It would cause a drip in the same area. Unfortunately you will have to remove your UIM and posibly your rats nest to get to it.

BTDT.... thats what I tore into and replaced about 3 weeks ago, when this was just a puff of steam. The only thing I found was *possibly* a small pinhole on the short front coolant line.
I bypassed the TB, and ran a new hose from the back of the coolant neck, to the block.

Have you checked your heater hoses on that side of that engine?
I appologize for making sound like a simple hose, but I am just tring to think if things that it could be other then your turbo hard pipe.

No problem... I would much prefer it to be a simple hose instead of having to pull the turbos!!!
Yup.... checked every hose I can find, see, feel, etc!! They're all fine.
I guess I could jumper the turbo coolant lines coming out of the water pump, then pressurize the system. That should tell me for sure if its a problem with the turbo coolant pipes..... definetly worth doing before pulling the turbos.

Wow. Never seen that. Can you get a wrench on that banjo bolt? What about the one on the other side? Good luck, I hope you don't have to pull your turbos to replace it.

There was no chance of getting a wrench on those banjo bolts. They were under the heat shield, and on the motor side of the turbos. I could see them both, but that was about it. I actually just thought it was a loose bolt until I got the turbos out.
