Signed a couple of days ago, but I doubt they would actually do anything. There will probably be a response saying nothing will be done about it, but hey at least we are all trying. I would be happy if they just brought it down to 20 years.

Unfortunately, I can't see it being changed to 15. Maybe 20, but not 15. Even at 15, I think the competition between Canada and US to purchase these cars would just cause the inflated price to swell even further. Right now, importers are jacking up prices of the R34 Skyline GT-R by about $12,000 to $15,000 over what they actually come out of the auction for. In any case, I'm sure that those who in charge will look at other countries with the rule and see all the bullshit that people who don't even know anything about driving rhd cars complain about and will probably decide against change the law. I just don't see any real benefits to allow cars of 15 years to be legal. Good luck, though!

As far as I'm concerned, the main problem with RHD cars in America (regardless of vehicle age) is the fact that they are RHD. I get that some people may want them purely for track use (in which case, go ahead, as it won't need to be driven on public streets) and that's totally cool. However, wanting a "J-Spec" or RHD car simply because you grew up jerking it to Fast and the Furious is rather juvenile.
Now, so you don't think I'm just being some dick head... here is my perspective... I lived in the UK for about 3 years. The UK, as many of you probably know, is a RHD country where you drive on the left side of the road, with oncoming cars passing to your right side. I owned two cars in England... one little local beater that I picked up for like $700(ish) and my FD, which I brought with me from Virginia. A LHD car is rather ill equipped to be driven in a RHD environment, so it naturally makes sense that the inverse is also true. I made due because I was extra cautious, and I typically only drove my car on rural country lanes where I'd only encounter a handful of other vehicles.
Being positioned, as the driver, on the outside edge of the road is a massive disadvantage when navigating around town and on single lane roads. Obviously that difference is mitigated once you get on multiple lane divided highways, but that is only one small aspect of the driving environment.
Honestly, as far as I personally care... production year of the car doesn't mean ****-all.. if it's LHD bring it, if it's RHD keep it to the track.

fendamonkey speaks the truth.
I have a LHD car that was imported here to Australia. It is near on extremely dangerous to drive in a country that is 100% RHD, for the reasons stated above me.
Right on.
If you flood the market with dangerous RHD cars that are not suited to your country (headlight beams are also different) then you can watch the value of your FDs go down, as all Japanese import cars take the hit on their reputation as being tarred with the same 'unsafe' brush.
Bad move in my opinion, but thats exactly what it is- just an opinion.

And what, exactly, do you think a potential change to this could do that would ACTUALLY benefits the US as a whole?
All I see is a bunch of kids that want RHD cars because they think its cool, not because it will provide any ACTUAL benefit to the region they may be opened to.
**** off with the damned HS petition...
