Question trying to find metalit metalic cat cores...

hey, trying to locate some metalit cores for my coustom parallel cat setup. unfortunately google has been no help in locating some, and i really have no interest in trying another brand of metal cat (s people have melted some of the other brands, and i have a metalit knightsport cat on my 13b and havent had a single problem yet, and passed CA emissions with flying colors). anyway, i was hoping someone in the rx7 community had some connects

thanks guys, heath

if you are installing EGT's (which is a no brainer with a 20B) you can keep your tune in-check...melting shouldn't be an issue.

parallel set-up??? where is there room for that?

They are a US company.

You just need to find out if they have a dealer that will sell you the part.

from my measurements, i SHOULD (crossing my fingers) be able to fit two 4" OD cores next to each other where the stock cat was (its nearly 8 inches wide). i may even be able to reuse the stock heat shield (with some bending) if i add some mounting points to the cats.

I bought one from these guys, haven't used it yet but it looks pretty good and the price is cheap.

I beleive the person that melted his cat had fuel issues as I posted in his thread. I burned out three cat's in my CRX when my distributor was bad. Unburned fuel went in to the exaust and burned in the cat but is was way too excessive and the cat disintibrated.

I purchased my metallic cat from Davesport, and it was the one that melted.

The melting was due to running too rich, and an exhaust leak.
FWIW, I was also running the air-pump connected.

When I'm ready to get another cat, I'd get the Davesport one again.

FYI - most companies like Random DaveSport Dynamax Knightsports SMB don't manufacture their own metal substrate catalytic cores. they buy cores from big manufacturers and package them up for resale.

Try googling metal substrate catalytic converters. Plenty of info on that topic

i sent a message to knightsports asking about hte possiblilty of buying just the cores, or even better, cores with stock flanges welded on... therefore when i DO kill one it will be less of a pain to replace it.

Arvin Supreme (posted link with pics above also). I had it welded in to my strait pipe.

I actually almost passed with this cat, but was way Too clean, so the tester freaked and failed me for missing EGR. I did accidentaly pour in alcohol when I was on empty this morning grabbing the wrong gas can (allegedly). D'oh!
