Trying to buy an RX7 this summer

Allright guys, the time is comming... the culmination of my life is gonna happen this summer. An rx7 fd will end up in my ownership. I did search on this ! I promise. I have a couple specific questions.

1. Is a automatic transmition FD a lot easier to learn to drive than a manual. (one who has little experience driving manuals). I'm worried about getting to much power, not being used to the car, and wrecking it...if I go manual.

2. Are there any other place to shop for cars, besides ebay and autotrader? online...

3. I live in Missouri. Say I find a car in florida or california that sounds pretty nice. Is it a bad idea to buy a car that far away and have it shipped to me?

Thanks, and I promise I did search on this, so please...no flames.

1. My FD was my first manual car. I drove on my friends cars to learn but it still a new thing for me. You only really have to worry about getting use to the rear end, if it breaks loose you should learn on how to control it. Maybe go to some AutoX or in a wet, empty, parking lot to do some driving.

2. Classifieds2000.com harder to find cars there now but thats where I got mine.

3. Shipping is going to kinda pricey... You should drive to get it. I bought mine in Missouri and I live on the east coast. Not a bad drive at all.

Good luck with the purchase.

RX7 was my first stick car and I picked up shifting in about 20 minutes without burning the clutch.

My school is notorious for a bunch of new domestic beasts that are automatic... we have an auto FireHawk, auto SS, couple of auto TA's... etc, and all of these are new cars. And I hear "DAMN! Nice car!" all the time, shortly followed by a "yeah, but it's an automatic."

There seems to be a lot of male aggressive "Sticks are for men" attitute going around, but then again a junior I know from last year had a single-turbo'd automatic FD and he ended up totalling it. My FD is a stick and I've yet to wreck it.

I'd say both transmissions are nice, but learning auto should be much easier for you. Sometimes in heavy traffic I curse wildly at manual shifting because I get tired. When street racing having a stick is wild though.

Oddly, I know an equal amount of people who have stick and want auto and have auto and want stick. I say go stick.

There's a for sale section right on this forum. You should check it out if you haven't already.

And yes, it's a very bad idea to buy a car sight unseen.

hmm, my middle paragraph didn't make sense. The junior with the auto single turbo FD got a lot of respect despite his auto tranny.

The traffic is one thing I'm worried about. I may end up getting very pissed off if I get stuck in traffic with a stick. also, is the much "speed/power/quickness" gain over a auto with a stick? If so, I could always pickup some tranny mods...right?

if your 18 then i highly recommend that you do not get an FD. unless of course your dads loaded and willing to pay for repairs and maintenace. trust me, u wont have any fun if you have to work nonstop just to afford gas

ah, I'm in colorado right now, but I'm moving back home (kansas City) for the summer. Pretty good amount of traffic. I'm not all that worried about maintenence and repairs because it's not gonna be my daily driver. It's just gonna be my weeked/fun/showoff car. I'll have plenty of money to do that.
