While there are plenty of FDs that aren't in good shape in the US, the ones for sale in Japan aren't a hell of a lot better. The ones that do get exported generally don't have good engines. So not only will you take a big risk on the import process, the car is bought sight unseen. That's a bad idea with an FD because major engine problems aren't obvious to a casual owner.

never said i was going to get it directly from Japan, or HAVE it imported lol

www.autotrader.ca . . . Canadian Auto Trader... there is 1 on there right now, I have seen many others in the past... You wanna find some cool cars? check that it out!

I would never pay to have one shipped over, that would eliminate the cost-effectiveness of the whole idea in shipping. haha

I know I'm just adding to the confusion and arguments but my friend has a 92 fd that he bought from canada. He had the guy who owned it drive it across the border and he knows a guy that can register jdm cars. Not sure how though.

It was registered with a state that didn't care to look into the issue.

The Feds do care, and if they find out, they WILL look into the issue and it's sayonara to your friends FD. Crunch crunch.

I think this thread needs to be locked now due to the confusion that is beginning to set in

it is a hands down DEFINITE NO... you can not LEGALLY register or insure a JDM FD, Sivla, etc etc etc...

You can jump through hoops and do it ILLEGALLY, but then you risk it being taken and crushed.

I've checked the VIN on that car, it's NOT a Spirit R.

It's a plain jane RB-S, the low power, low spec version of the S8.

Those cars sell for $20K here in Australia.

I've always wanted a real Spirit R but 2027 is a long ways off.

Interesting, fresh information that a RHD 1992-1995 RX-7 is eligible for importation according to NHTSA. It's early here where I am, but I believe that was the major roadblock for importing these cars.

Of course the desirable 96+ cars are not eligible, but that's another matter.
