Is it true that if you remove y-pipe coupler that you can damage the turbos?

Ok guys here is my situation. I figured out where my boost leak is coming from, and it is in fact coming from the coupler that connect the y-pipe with the crossover tube. So anyway i just placed my order for 3inch diamter coupler made of silicon , and i said i needed 5 inches of it, i dont know why i need 5 inches of it but thats what my mechanic told me over the phone to get. So anyway i phoned my mechanic back and told him that i ordered 5 inches of silicon hose that was 3 inches in diameter for a cheper price then the one he said that he had and would give me. Any way, iI then told him that it looks like it would be a pretty easy task if i removed this **** my self. I mean whats so hard about removing a the coupler that goes from the y-pipe to the cross over tube? So anyway i told him that, and my mechanic response was just remember dont drop anything in where the y-pipe is because you can **** up your turbos? is this true? should i stuff some kleenix in the y-pipe? so nothing can get in? does that include dust and ****? or what could he possibly think by removing the coupler that can fall in there?

there isnt really anything that can fall in there unless you are careless. go ahead a do it and be careful. you can plug the hole with toilet paper just make sure you pull it back out. haha. dust wont do anything, just make sure you dont let anything "visible" fall down in there. it will be easy. . . or you can just order an efini y-pipe. that would be way worth it. you wouldnt have anymore couplers to deal with until you hooked it up to your intercooler. and the efini y-pipe is evidently good for about 15 hp. . . AND its nice looking. haha.

I always stuff a rag in there when working in that area. You never know when a nut might slip out of your hands.

Yeah my nuts slip out of my hands all the time. I guess I should have less grease on my hands. They're just so big, though.

the efini-y pipe flows better but it is not good for 15 hp when it came out and the hp went up there were other changes that helped up the hp . If I am wrong please show dyno sheets with only this change ,and I will learn something,
