I ran into a problem today and want to get some input before I try the obvious fix. I was just coming off of running the car very hard for an extended period of time when the car backfired, rapidly decelerated, and blew a large cloud of black smoke under full throttle. I ran it easy to bring all temperatures down and then tried to do a WOT run and the same thing happened again. I pulled it over and the idle fluctuated from 1000-1500rpm in a slow wave, as the AF meter read from max lean to max rich corresponding with the wave. The boost gauge did not work at all. I limped it home and discovered 2 vacuum hoses hanging loose. They appear to be coming off of the manifold as I'm showing in the picture, but I wanted to verify the situation before I attach them or do anything else to the car. I know some of the nipples are not used, I assume as a result of the single turbo conversion done to the car. Being a brand new FD owner I decided to err on the side of caution and ask first. Aside from these two hoses, is there anything else I should do or check over as a result of these symptoms?

Usually one of those nipples is used for your BOV and the other for your boost gauge. Reconnect them and run again.

 

And make sure you get some clamps on those suckers so it doesn't happen again
