trouble shifting = clutch?

its been getting tougher for me to get in and out of gears lately, especially reverse. also when im running the car hard and i shift, it seems to take a little bit longer than it should to fully grab. not a clear "slip", but something like it.
there also seems to be less space between "starting to engage" and fully engaged.

i know my T/O berring needs to be replaced, are these problems because of this or my clutch going bad or something else?

ur not too far from me, maybe 15 minutes....i suggest taking it to Ray at PFSupercars in Fredrick...he only works on rotaries and hes like number 2 on the east coast or something like that. anyone who has dealt with him could tell u hes the man to see...let me know if u need his number or something

thanks! ill give him a call today.

Rufio:
you ARE close to me, theres a few things that ive noticed about my car that might need to be looked at, but im not really sure. is there any of them that you would be able to help me with? this is my first rotary and i got it less than a month ago, so i dont exactly know what im doing yet. heres a short list of issues.

- the clutch and shifting issue

- theres a fair amount of oil drops on my garage floor right under the engine, if i look from the drivers side down next to the engine theres a little filter about the size of a 8oz. coke can, and it seems to always be wet underneath and black dirt or somehting is on all the parts underneath of it. i think this may be the source or oil but im not sure.

- the rear end squeaks alot when going over speed bumps ( or any bumps, could this be pillowballs? ive read alot about those going bad)

- the engine purrs like a cat occationally, mostly when its cold (this isnt really an issue but just want to make sure this is normal)

-when im ANY lower than 2500rpms, the engine makes a wierd scratchy sound when i go on the gas, and its not lugging. as soon as its above 2500ish, it goes away.

- id like to do a compression check and check the boost levels, but the boost gauage i ordered wont be here for awhile, is there any way just to check it temporarily?

anyway if theres anything you could help me with , it would be much appreciated. ill pay you to just look at it and tell me what you think. i took it to the mazda dealership in annapolis and he the car was perfectly fine and was in the best condition he had ever seen... what alot of help he was, i was in and out in 15 minutes.

It is always a good idea to have a pro take a look at it if you are new to the car. Forums are only so good and sometimes just plain wrong.

The clutch fork is also an item to have checked out. Search on clutch fork for more info.

That sounds like the knock sensor or the oil pressure switch.

mazda dealers don't know anything about rx7s. you can't tell anything about this car or the problems you described in 15 minutes. get PFS to look at it. drop it off, let them spend the day checking it out and then listen to what they tell you maybe take notes. if you have any questions, post back.

yeah i realized that when he opened the hood, glanced around, and closed it again. i was being sarcastic when i said he was alot of help haha.

i have an older friend whos an engineer and had an R1, he changed the clutch on that and his Porche himself, so im thinking of letting him take a look at it before i take it all the way to Federick since its a pretty good distance away from Annapolis, especially if i have to leave the car there.

I agree with this assessment.
If it is the master then you should always replace master and slave together. Should run about $200 max for parts and not more than an hour or 2 of labor.

I had the same problem and it ended up being the OEM clutch line that had formed a tear in it. SS clutch line fixed that problem real fast, but I did end up replacing the Master Cylinder as well to be on the safe side (and I already had a replacment).
