Trick to egi relay removal

Sorry guys, but I am having a massive brain lapse. What is the easiest way to remove the egi relay without a relay puller.... it is pretty tight in there. Any "tricks of the trade" one could share?

Channel locks? Your fingers?

It just pulls straight up. No real trick, it's just tight and hard to grab.

You can also pull the EGI *fuse*, that's WAY easier, unless you want that relay out for some reason. Pulling the EGI fuse is the easiest way to kill power to the ECU so you can crank and build oil pressure.

Dale is it not clipped? I recall just pulling it out, but now it doesn't want to budge and I was scared I will break something. I will just put some force and pull it out if that's the case...

It helps if you use a pic to release the locking tabs. Otherwise they like to break off.

Thanks. So it is clipped on both sides. I will try to pick/pry a little. I need to find something that is skinny enough.

Got it. Had to pick at it a bit, but she came out.

theres a finesse with channel locks. i used to have the same issue and if you squeeze it with the channel locks too tight, youll break the case. squeeze it to soft and they will slide off. i have a weird fear of sticking metal tools in fuse boxes even with the battery disconnected so i avoid that. if you grab it with the channel locks as close to the base as you can and then wiggle and pull, it will come out 100% of the time. it takes some practice to get the feel right.

I took the metal piece out of an old wiper blade and bent a slight curve/hook at the end and use that to pull the relays in that area. Wrapping it with a bit of tape sounds like a good idea for the future.
