Transmissions stuck in fourth gear???

This mornig I went for a drive and noticed that the third and fourth gears are constantly getting stuck ( First, second and fifth are working just fine...). I could easily shift into third and fourth but they would get stuck when I would shift out. The more I drove the worse it got... untill I finally had to pull over and stop. I towed the car back home and it's just sitting there stuck in fourth gear. I'm really confused because I don't know transmissions at all...?
Could somebody please explain what is going on! Any help is appreciated

Does your clutch pedal still have resistance to it when you depress it?
Also does the clutch pedal stay to the floor after being depressed?
Check you fluid res and make sure it is full. Other then that it may need a tranny rebuild. It could also be the clutch fork but I would think that would break off completely and no gears would work.

My first gen tranny locked up on me. The only gear I had was fourth (1 to 1 gear) and all the others would lock the rear. I found out the tranny locked up at 70 on the freeway. That was fun.

Did you inspect the clutch parts when you took the tranny out. Nothing is worn out broken is it (like the clutch disk, pressure plate etc.)?

Otherwise it sound like a tranny rebuild may fix. Was your tranny making any noises?

The tranny wasn't making any noises at all... It's really wierd because all the other gears work just fine, but it's the third and fourth that are getting stuck.

My question is why just the 3. and 4. gears?

But anyway my car is going for a tranny rebuild next week so I'll find out then what happend
