Transmission Troubles...
Transmission Troubles...
This just happened to me today for the third time in about two weeks...but for some reason when I started my car it wouldn't go into any gear...like the other few times, after a lil muscle the car went into first then as I drove it kinda gradually got easier to shift until it was back to normal...I guessing the tranny just got bundled up...but is there anyway to prevent this?
If it will shift fine with the engine off, but not with the engine started, it's a clutch problem.
If it can be hard to shift with the engine off, drain your oil and look for stuff that shouldn't be in there. In fact, I'd take the bottom plate off and have a look.

I wouldn't shift even with the engine off...
Doesn't sound like a good long term solution. I don't know anything about transmissions, but I'd suggest start with dgeesman's suggestion and go from there. You don't want to create more problems by not addressing this now.

Well im planning on rebuilding my tranny here after i put my car away for next winter (and my interior) but with this Im going to get a new aftermarket clutch, counter wights and flywheel...So as for now I just need something for a quick fix...BTW this only really happens when I "get on" the car (quick accels and **** like that)
I had a pilot bearing lock up onto the input shaft one time. It would not shift at all when running, but shut the engine off and it would go into any gear.
It sounds like if you have the engine off and the tranny is not shifting, there is a binding in the shifting forks or rods. Possibly the shifting mechanism bolts are loose, misaligning the shifting rod with the forks. Could be dirt/crap in the tranny also binding the forks or shaft. Metal wear and flakes or shavings may be the culprit also. All of these can be checked by following dgeesaman's advice and drain the tranny fluid and remove the bottom plate. It will cost you the replacement oil and silicone for a gasket. Cheap enough to find out what is going on.
