Transmission q's
I have a 3rd a 5th gear synchro problem. I understand the transmission has to be removed and reasembled ($900). My questions are;
-How beefy is the rx-7 transmission?
-What's the max hp they are good for?
-It will cost my warranty about $900 for the tranmission parts/labor. Could I possibly have a beefier transmission installed now? My future plans for the car are to heavily modify it. So would it be a smart idea to buy a beefier transmission now and save me $ and headaches later. If possible, can anyone suggest alternative transmissions or point me in the right direction?

ps. Thanks in advance

So far I haven't heard of any real alternate tranny swaps but i have noticed people changing thing such as clutch, flywheel, final-drive gears, driveshafts, differentials, etc. you could search for these things or talk to someone from rx7.com about em since they sell all of those.
There are no beefier transmissions that are financially similar to the stock one. The stock one will take a lot of power without any problems. Most of the replacement transmissions cost between 5-8 thousands and aren't really suitable for the street.

Ouch!
Someone sent me a private message and told me to purchase a jspec transmission with low miles. I understand it would probably be cheaper but does it have any gains over the us counterpart? Aren't they identicle?

Yeah the J spec ones are the same... unless you get one out of a specific model (Bathurst) that has a different 5th gear ratio. But reliability and strength wise, they are the same as far as I know.

I red in the magazine "Japanesse Performence", The issue that had the FD3 buying guide! It said that the trannies are good, and can handle alot off power! The only weeknes is the gear synchro in 5gear or reverse! So you are unlucky to get one of those cars with this monday problem. If I was you I would rebuilt the tranny with diffrent ratio on the 5 gear = higher topspeed........we love traveling fast.......... Soon a FD3 owner (And the modyfing beginns)
