Transmission problems, need some ideas

So there I am at a stop light clutch out and out of gear, waiting for the light to change. I turns green and I press in the clutch and I cant get the car into gear (kinda like when you try to put the car into 1st gear when your going to fast) It would not get into any gear. I force the shifter into second and off I go. Now im afraid that it will do it agian and keep the car in 2nd till I get home. After I get it home I keep the car running and try to go though the gears while parked and the clutch in. Its hard at first but then it goes though all 5 w/o any more problems. I shut the car off and repeat and it acts normal.

Now this I know about what is wrong with the tranny at this time. Fith gear sync needs to be replaced and the the though out bearing is making a slight noise when the clutch is depressed.

Any thoughts guys?

Mines does this also occationaly, I know that my throw out bearing is probally going but luckly I have a new tranny waiting to go in Personnaly, the last time it happened to me was about 6 months ago. I had to wiggle the shifter back and forth and shift to second before I could shift to first so start going.

Kinda freak when your at a red light and people are in back of you getting angry.

Ok thanks guys, I thought that it might be the 5th gear synco giving me problems thoughout the tranny. I do have a short though in it come to think about it. I was sweating bullets there for a few praying it would get into gear soon.

I know with older rotaries some bolts inside the gearbox would actually stretch and allow the gearbox to overselect the gear causing all sorts of problems. Can't say if this is the problem with the 3rd gen rx7s

Not sure my response is germane, but when my clutch went out on my FC years ago, I could not get it into any gear at teh time. had to get it towed. Turned out the pilot bearing had completely SELF DESTRUCTED! The mechanic mentioned something about picking needle bearing shafts from the sludge in the bottom of the belhousing, and the roller cage was a wasted crippled mass of metal. Just my experience...

spurvo- after that happened did you have any noise coming from the clutch or tranny?

Isn't it when the clutch goes it first starts to slip?

Had a similar situation happen on a 944 when the clutch slave cylinder was about to fail. Air/leakage was preventing the clutch from fully releasing. Pumping the clutch would allow it to keep functioning, for a few minutes at a time. Installing a new slave cylinder stop all the problems.

Im going to have my 5th gear sync fixed next friday. Do you guys think that they will see the throw out bearing or the slave unit going bad? Dont really want them to "find problems by replacing parts that dont need to be" I know its going to cost enough just to fix the 5th gear.
thanks
