Tranny swap done... Almost...

After putting in 12 hours at the shop today I was able to get the manual stuffed and got to fire my car off before I left to come home. Still need to bleed the clutch some more other than that the tranny swap seemed to go fine.

Now the seq. simplification on the other hand... Lets just say I had a few CEL's waiting on me when I fired it up. I used resistors on the solenoid plugs, but I didn't use any on the connections for the various emissions units I removed so I will start tackling that tomorrow.

Is there a cut and dry for sure list of what needs resistors?

Looking forward to driving my manual RX-7!

All the rack solenoids you removed need to be replaced by a resistor around 40Ohms. In the FSM, section F, each solenoid has a resistance value that should give you an idea what size resistor you'll need to replace it.

Which ones did you remove?

All off the emissions solenoids, but I used the 1/2 watt 330 ohm resistors I see everyone talking about on here.

Also, what is the green connector in the UIM that is just a socket sticking out of the bottom of the manifold? Which of the connectors plugs into it, I think I plugged the white one into it as it seemed to reach the best.

That one sticking out the bottom of the UIM is one Intake Air Temp and IIRC the connector is black and I know the white connector goes to the ICV. I used the same resistors that you are using, all over the car and no CEL's. Search around for the meanings of the CEL's after you jump the gnd & Ten pin. That is a good place to start.

Did you use a manual engine harness or slavage the auto harness?

Used the Auto harness, and basically just jumpered it to start.

So here is where I stand so far.

CEL's:
5 - Knock Sensor??
30 - Split Air Bypass
33 - Port Air Bypass
34 - Idle Speed Control
38 - Accel Warmup
39 - Relief 2

Which is odd because I used a resistor in all of those solenoids.

Also, for some odd reason my "Hold" light is flashing.

But that is the least of my problems, I pulled the car out and drove down the road and my tranny is making a horrid noise when driving in gear.

At this point I just need a nap.

Any ideas on the Tranny noise? Its when its in gear and the vehicle is underway. Its sort of a grinding noise and seems to be in every gear. Could I have messed up my Pilot bearing? But it dosen't seem to make the noise in nuetral and after searching the forums none of the info I found seems to pretain to my problem.

Also, would the knock sensor CEL put the ECU in limp mode?

Well at this point I put the car up on jack stands and brought in the experts. After putting a stethoscope to the tranny while on stand running in gear its apparent the damage is internal and the tranny is shot and is in need of a rebuild, which really hurts me in the long run because now I have to find a new tranny or fork out loads of cash to fix a tranny I just bought.

A buddy of mine in OKC has done a few swaps with me, and has dissassembled and rebuilt an FD tranny...

I have another one on the way, I will probably yank this one apart when I get some free time and see what it needs to be rebuilt so I am not stuck with a $300 chunk of scrap iron.
