Tranny problem...

I know of the other thread, this one is related, but I think it will get more replies of my question in its own thread. Today I was cruisng in 5th and I down shifted to 4th to pass a car. Floor it around the car get to about 5k then I shift into 5th and it spits it right out. I then notice that it feels like there is a block in the reverse slot. I repeat trying to goto 5th same thing. I double pump the clutch same thing. So I pull over and try to get into reverse and there is absolutly nothing. Just feels like it is blocked off. I was having slight 5th gear synchro problems but if I doulbe pumped the clutch it would go. I tried to force it in reverse but nothing. Do I need a new tranny, or is it just a throwout bearing or something? Could I take it to any tranny shop and have them fix it? I would like to have it resolved soon, so can someone reply quick!? Thanks alot! Sorry for the long post...

If you can shift into all the other gears, then it is not your clutch or throwout bearing, or any of that stuff. It sounds like an internal tranny problem... maybe you completely shattered a syncro or something.

Can you shift into 1st thru 4th normally?

As I read the manual, both 5th and reverse use the same shift rod, so if its bent or sheared off a roll pin or something like that, it could easily affect both gears.

Are you saying:
1. That you can select 5th gear, but it won't stay engaged? Can you hold the gearshift lever and force it to stay in 5th? Be easy though, you don’t want bigger problems.
2. That you cannot move the gearshift lever in to reverse position at all?

Well, you are going to have to pull the tranny and tear it apart to find out what's wrong. Something on the 5th/reverse rod broke.
