tps voltage questions

okay my car has been having super erratic idle problems lately and ive pretty much narrowed it down to the tps sensor.

i read damians post about adjusting it and when i went to do it, the closed and open voltages only varried by about .1 volt... O_o

for instance closed throttle top wire is .51
open throttle top wire is .64

closed throttle bottom wire is like .4
open throttle bottom wire is .52

anyone know what may be causing the voltage to not rise anywhere near what its supposed to at open throttle?

is my tps sensor bad or maybe put on incorrectly?

ive been dealing with these idle problems for a few months now, but its all across the rev spectrum now and the car is undrivable...ive tried to have it fixed a few times but the problems return...

You might have it installed incorrectly. There is an internal spring mechanism that needs to have resistance when the throttle plates open. If you installed wrong, the throttle will open, but won't activate the internal spring in the TPS. So you don't get fluctions in your reading.

Try unscrewing the TPS (not all the way off) and twist the tps, if you have a little bit of resistance/snap to it, then you have it installed correctly.

okay yeah i installed it incorrectly

however when i put it in right and adjusted it to the correct voltages my car still has a loping idle, revving from 1.2 to 2k rpms over and over...this is starting to **** me off cuz i have NO ******* clue what it could be now.

You have a very useful tool at your disposal, the PFC Commander. Try reading the voltages from it. Sometimes just running without the ISC connected will work.

on another note, when i had the top wire voltage at 1.00v to 5.05 it ran at 2k rpms pretty smooth, but 2k rpms is not a good idle.

when i put the top wire voltage down to .8v, now it has the loping idle

at this point im beggining to think its not the tps X_X

PSSSSS.....it was running fine about a week ago, i drove it to blockbuster smooth and idled perfect. turned the car off and went inside and when i came back out and started the car it had the surging/loping idle...nothing was touched or turned off or anything, anyone care to input on that?

is there another sensor or something that i am missing that would be causing these problems? in its current state, when i move the throttle even just 1mm, it revs to like 2500 or something, really high for how much i moved the throttle...i dunno what to do anymore, im too pissed to think straight

Do you have accelerated warmup stuff still on the car?

Perform the PFC idle learn function again.

Adjust the TPS as per damian's thread. You must do every single step correctly, even setting the 2 screws on the top of the TB correctly, or you may never solve your problem.

After all that is done (and the car is still at operating temp.) disconnect the battery negative terminal.

Pump breaks/let sit for 30 seconds to drain all power from system.

Screw in the idle set screw that is at the bottom of the TB, below the intake elbow, then back it out 1/2 turn.

Reconnect negative terminal.

Start car and let idle for 10min with no electronics on, 10 with rear defrost, then 10 with AC.
