TPS help
Ok so Ive searched the forums and ive found some info on recalibrating the throttle position sensor but some of the directions were kinda vague,
can someone help me out?
I understand i need a volt meter, I got one. That I need to loosen the bottom screw on the tps and also barely loosen the top screw. I also know that I need to get these readings.
Green/red wire
closed throttle 1.00 volts
wide open throttle 4.99 volts
Black wire
closed 0.4 volts
open 4.3 volts
here's where I'm stuck. Where exactly are these two wires that im supposed to get these readings from? Are they on the tps? or are they on the harness that plugs into the tps? Also can i just touch the positive tester on these wires or is there a special technique? I read something about a safety pin?So if anyone has any pics or really good info on how to do this I'd really appreciate the help. Thanks!

Oh, I almost forgot. When you tighten the screws back on the TPS be careful not to put too much torque on them, you could damage the tps or snap a screw. If you still need pics let me know and I will take some when I get home.
man, I need help 2! My vta2 on my power fc says 4.6v but my vta1 is at .43. under the hood the tps wires are: Black .2v green/red 1v. I can change the green/red one but the black one stays the same? please help is there something I dont get or what?
I would trust the PFC numbers. If you are not getting good numbers at the TPS it may be your probe not making contact with the pins.

Have you setup your throttle stop?
Read damians thread on how to set up the linkage and dashpot first, then try your tps adjustment.
Have you removed the tps and reinstalled?
If not reinstalled correctly this can cause a similar problem and a very high idle.
Do the values change on VT1 and VT2 when you move the throttle?
If not you could have a bad tps ( but not a very common part to go bad)

I just replaced my TPS and I probed the connector harness but can't seem to get a reason. There's another problem with my car and the battery not getting charged IDK what it's due to, but would I not be getting a reading because the battery is dead? Also I just picked up a multimeter from radioshack and I'm pretty n00b so I don't know what setting it should be on. any ideas? I tried jumping the car and starting it when I put on the TPS but with no success. it still wont combust but it'll turn over. Oh, and I haven't really messed with the adjustments because I can't get the reading to come on. In short: I have everything ready to be tuned but can't get a reading. Sorry about the vagueness but I don't know how to explain the situation that well. Lol

Ok I read the manual over and I'm on the right settings but I don't get any reading at all. even when I hookup another battery. No current, and the key is in the ignition. Any ideas?
What was the original problem with the car to warrant a tps replacement?( History right before the problem occurred)
When you check for voltage is the key in the on position?
Have you checked your fuses in the engine compartment fuse box?
Have you tested your meter to a known 12v source(Put the meter on the 12v dc scale and test the battery. If it doesn't say DC it may have a symbol like this----)?
Stock computer or other?

The car's always had TPS problems and the guy who used to work on it said it needed to be replaced and he's pretty knowledgable when it comes to cars(I guess) he's done all the other work right. And it's on a Pettit unlimited.
