Tow Hook for 99spec front?

Hi, unfortunately i need to add a tow hook somewhere on the front of my car and i have the the oem 99 front. Are there existing kits i can order that will fit, or do i have to make my own one? If someone did this before, could you pls post pics?
It would be good if it works without taking off the whole bumper or the undertray (i got the shine-auto one and used a LOT of screws ...).
I also searched and read old threads, but most of them only give some ideas concerning the 92-98 front bumper.

a super cheap option, if you just need one for the track is to drill a whole into the bumper support, buy a tow hook adapter from home depot (they have some heavy duty ones) and use a long big screw with washer to mount it to the bumper support. It works just dosent look great.

This is something I've been after for a good while - none seem to fit on a 99 spec without cutting my lovely OEM bumper.

Those Rennenmetal ones don't look like they'll properly clear the '99?

I've emailed Rennemetal to see what they say.
I actually made a mock up a few weeks ago out of thin alloy, but I'd need to find someone to make it. Problem is it needs 2 bends in it to bring it out to clear the vent.

EDIT: Herblenny, can only just make it out on my monitor - it's on the centre opening, right? Assbags, I can't do that - v-mount and ducting

Center opening on the passenger side.. You'll see a faint flash reflection tow hook... thats the feed tow hook.

Not entirely sure what you're advocating here.....drilling the fibreglass(??) support and using screws. The purpose of the hook, beyond getting non-running cars off track, is to expedite removal of cars stuck in traps. At least here, hook is supposed to be able to move car with rear wheels locked.

Beyond risking damage to the car on the tow if it pulls out, there is the prospect of injuring track workers with the recoil of the tow line - which has happened here.....and don't the insurers love that!

If something unobtrusive is needed, a webbing strap off the standard tie downs is an alternative.....just got to make sure it's not dragging on the nosecone or splitter.

The bumper support isnt exactly cheap "fiberglass" but yes its not as sturdy as a chassis mounting point. I recon its as tough as the metal tap used for some of the cheap tow hook kits, but thats subjective. But like I said its a super cheap method essentially a cheap bastard mod. Two bolts into the bumper support and it should be ok for basic fast towing, not good for a car getting lifted over a river by a helicopter. Im not "advocating anything, especially the way your pointing out things. For a temp tow hook its an option; and so is the tow strap as you mentioned.

Btw over here, ive seen a legit tow hook snap on a camaro at a drag strip due to the bolts not bearing the weight of the car, and according to rules the workers should not be near or outside the car when the car is being towed so injury shouldnt be at risk just to let ya know.

It bolts on to an existing threaded hole on the frame rail... Its been awhile but maybe where the current tow hook bolts on to.

I installed it with the bumper on.. I know this because I scratched the bumper with the tow hook during installation.

Ok, i took some pictures now. my car is a jdm rhd, and i only see options on the drivers side. on passenger side there's no hole/bolt i could use. The first idea i had was to use the red marked bolt, but only one bolt isnt enough i think. The whole tow hook could turn up and down. What about the 2 big chassis wholes? Any ideas? Herblenny ??




Btw, i just noticed the sticker on my radiator, is this the stock unit?

That’s not a radiator that looks like it might be your ac condenser or something. The radiator is located behind that one.

I have rennenmetal tow hooks and there are no fitment issues with my OEM '99 spec front bumper. The front hook does attach in the same location as the A/C condenser mount, so you will probably have to make some minor modifications there if you still have A/C. I don't have A/C anymore, so the install was a breeze.

I'm pretty sure that they used a design similar to the FEED tow hooks.

hm but the bracket of the feed tow hook has two holes for bolts. Are you sure you used just one?

Yeah, it's deffo possible - I forgot to get a photo of my mockup.
Just got to find someone who can take my crappy 0.8mm roughly cut aluminium schoolboy project, and turn it into a 6mm steel tow hook with 2 bends in it.

received the rennenmetal tow hooks yesterday and i have to say i'm dissapointed with the quality. well those are only tow hooks, but the holes for the screws have been drilled by hand and thats what they look like. There are also small dings and the powdercoating isn't good either. I would not recommend to buy those since they are 90$+shipping and the quality sucks. hope the front tow hook fits anyway. i will give it a try next sunday.
