Touring with R1 headliner

I am a tall guy and I would like to know if it would be possible to have a R1 headliner in my touring instead of the sun roof. My 1st Rx7 before the touring was a blk R1 and i loved the extra room. has anyone ever attempted this or is it not worth the cost?
all honest comments welcomed. Is this a stupid idead?

Of coarse it can be done but with fab work. Remember the double bubble roof? To get it done like it was from the factory will take someone with intimate knowledge of aero and engineering.
If head room is a problem then look into an aftermarket seat. The rails/brackets can be custom fabbed to mount lower. Easily giving you an extra inch if not slightly more.
I hate to say it but do a search on seats in this section, interior or even the race section . Good luck!

Thanks..
i dont care much for the roof its fine i would just leave the roof closed. i just want to replace the headliner so i can have the room found in the R1? I am just not sure if they the headliners are compatible. I agree it would be dumb to replace the entire roof section but I am just talking about the interior.

I don't think there's room with the sunroof frame and motor. You'd have to weld the roof closed to be able to remove the sunroof guts and make enough room.

Got it. I thought you wanted to get rid of the entire assembly. Literaly the headliner!! Still much more work than it's worth. To separate the outside skin from the guts of the sliding sunroof will take some work. The headliner is contoured to the guts of the sunroof. Go the seat route!

Thanks!

I have never seen it done before, this explains why. I was planning on buying one used from the forum but didnt want to waste $$ to do what has a already failed. YEah i may go with the seat rail idea. The shoes make a difference for me, if i wear boots, which is all i wear, I have issues with touching the roof. I guess i it will be cheaper to stick with sandals and sneakers

Replacing the headliner won't gain you anything. Its what is under the liner that takes up space. Lowering the seat is really the only option.
