It's not how he totalled the FD. It's how he said he's so glad that it's total.

Actually, upon re-reading what he said, it was more "I'm glad they [ie. insurance company] totalled it because I'd hate to have a car back that rides bad because of the accident."

I don't see where that makes him seem happy he totalled the car in the first place, just glad the insurance didn't force him to fix it and then have him stuck with a car that may never be the same - and since he was in the process of selling it, that's understandable. A bit harder to sell a car when it's not riding as it should, OR when someone checks things out and sees it was in a major accident.

My parents' were in a head-on a few years back; the car was crumpled almost to the windshield yet initially the ins. company wanted to fix it rather than total it. There's no way that car would have ever driven the same as it had before the accident, so they were "happy" it was totalled in the end.

The quote above, and a quote from his next post where he gleefully proclaimed that he was driving on bald tires is what pissed me off. The little **** doesn't deserve a Bimmer---he should be riding a damn 10 speed.

 

Upon reading what actually happened, it's especially upsetting to me, as I basically took a fair condition FD (about to be parted, and done with), and saved it by putting in the time and effort necessary to keep just one more on the road... These cars really are too cheap now, as they are falling into the wrong hands all over the place.

 

Yup, and because of the wonderful hydroplaning prepubescent Mario Andretti all of that has been nullified. One back on the road, one in a ditch.

I have to say, he's young.. not that I'm old.. but one one out there who really loves FD, just got a chance to own one for pretty cheap.. and able to fix it.. So, I wouldn't worry about it... unless its already parted out and parts are sold.. Still its being recycled back to other FD owners..

And thank god he got a bimmer..

 

We were all young once(and some still are). Look back and think of all the stupid, immature things we did(I can remember all the stupid things that I have done) - especially when driving.

I'm Nick's brother, and you know what f*cking pisses ME off? You. My brother is a very hard worker... he works for my parents full time making more money than most people twice his age make. And he should be considered one of the most highly respected youth in our community. Doesn't drink, smoke, cuss, and definitely doesn't do drugs. So you're getting upset at him makes me get very upset with YOU for your IGNORANCE in blaming him for this accident. Givin the situation the same thing would have happened to you. You have no idea what this road can get like at times, and you have NO IDEA how much we gripe at the county about fixing it... My brother failed to mention that the sheriff who came out to write up the report was sliding around from side to side when he pulled up to the scene (which my dad told him to include in the accident report). The fact that he had bald tires doesn't exactly help this situation, but I can guarantee you, if you saw this road, you would shut the f*ck up. Had little-nothing to do with the tires... Driving on this road on days like that day is like trying to drive on 3-4" of grease.

And as for why he was driving it in those type of conditions? Well it was his only car... and if you only had one car do you think YOU could decide what weather you can or can't drive in? I think not. So get off your high horse of blaming my brother for this. People like you make me happy to see a nice car go down like this and hurt their feelings. You think I wasn't a little bummed to see that car end the way it did? Of course I was. But sheesh, get over it. It's a CAR. It can be what you call REPLACED.

BTW. My brother said I "had" an SS... that should have said "has"... And he is right. We're not idiots around here... I am personally building (full professional blueprint job) an LT1 for my car that will not go in the car unless it is making at least 625-650 fwhp n/a. And for any of you who are familiar with building 23 degree headed sbc's, you will know that's pretty good... Especially considering it's a rather conservative 383 ci. So I don't wanna see anybody calling my brother an idiot again. He's young and still has some things to learn, but I can tell you what, he's a lot further along than most of your guys were at his age.

Then selling the piece of crap cars to the people who do. You sound like some RX7 ****. Obvoiusly the sherriff was in a hurry to get to the accident scene. I'm sure he would have been driving safely if he didn't have an emergency accident to respond to..........oh yeah it was that kid brother of yours sliding off the bridge........obviously someone else's fault. Let's blame it on the county, not unsafe driving. Maybe you can blame it on the state, or federal govt, when he crashes the BMW!!

And since I know that is fact from all the witness's that were vouching the same thing that day on our road (ie. not being able to drive over 15mph without loosing control)... I do believe you are calling him a liar. And since you know everything, I'm sure you must be right, since you are such a smart guy and all... I suppose I could get the officer to comment on that for you since he's a friend of ours... And since he knew nobody was hurt I'm sure he was in a diar hurry to get here (especially since it was that last 20-30 feet he was sliding around on). Seems to me law enforcement officers are trained to travel safely under ALL conditions. But then again, you are the smartest person I've ever met, so I'm sure you're right on that one too. The cop was just in a hurry and being clumbsy. Simple as that. Everybody else was sliding all over the road too that day, so I'm sure they were just in a hurry and being careless idiots too. I wish you were here so you could teach all of us idiots how to drive. Because you're such a smart and caring guy. I really do wish there were more people like you in this world. Yeah, it's water under the bridge now.

I've lost control of my FD at 10-15 mph in wet condition before too bc of balding tires. We all could use a lesson.

As far as taking fault, I guess Nick will get some points on his driving records. If he doesn't care for the FD, he should care for his driving records, especially if he is as hard working as his brother claims.

Having said everything, I wouldn't be surprised if he wrecks his BMW. But then again, those 330's are much easiler to replace. Maybe a 4x4 would be a better choice for those roads...

 

Oh, and maybe, just MAYBE when you take into consideration 2700 lbs multiplied by 10-15 mph of force, coliding with 50+ year old concrete that likely COULD have a few weak spots, I would come to the conclusion that yes, that concrete could break under that kind of pressure. But then again, you are still the smartest person I know. So you are probably right. It was just my stupid, lying, no good idiot, 18 year old brother. We should just kill all males under the age of 20. They'll never amount to anything in life...

Oops, were you were 18 once? How could this be? Please, do tell me. When you were between the ages 16 and 20, were you were the smartest most sensible person in the world?? 99.9% of you on here know the answer to that question is a resounding NO! A) A spoiled brat who's parents bought him his car

C) A drug dealer (which in many cases could be true )

Do you guys realize how much you make yourselves look like idiots by doing this? For goodness sake, can't you ever think back to the days you were there age? Don't you wish you had the resources they have now? Wouldn't you feel better helping these guys learn stuff about their cars and molding them into cool cars guys like yourselves (If I can even assume that about some of you)? Instead of always making them feel like crap because they're younger than you... Which in my opinion could very likely be WHY we have this huge "ricer" epidimic in this country. Because us older car guys are so hard on the younger ones for being "idiots" that they stop coming to the guys like us who can really help them, and start going to their peers who you know full well can't help them any better than they can help themselves. Exactly my point... he's young and still has lessons to learn. We all did at that age... and STILL do as I mentioned in my last post. He's far from a bad kid... he's a very GOOD kid. So that's why I've gotten so upset about the way a few of you guys have been treating him over this. Because I know as well as you guys do, if the worst thing you'd ever done was wreck a car, then you would probably have to consider yourself a fairly fortunate person.

I would sure like to think that if he could afford a $30,000+ BMW that he could afford a second car (or TRUCK?!?!) which would have been better suited for the conditions present on that road. That is the point. That RX-7 had absolutely NO business driving on a road which you describe as 'like trying to drive on 3-4" of grease'. I'm sure you could find thousands of decent older Chevy or Ford trucks for less than $1,000 in Nebraska. That is where his irresponsibility comes in. And you both OBVIOUSLY knew the conditions on the road were like that, and could have EASILY prevented what happened.

An FD sliding on 3/4" of grease at 10-15 mph is not going to bust off that bridge like that. It would hit the pillar and spin around on that grease like a spinning top....especially with those bald tires.

My name's Nik, and i work for these guys's parents and drive down that road EVERYDAY. That day IT WAS HORRIBLE! Me and my other co-workers besides Nick ALL lost it that day somewhere along that road. It sucked! But he had the bald tires and little weight and apparently 15MPH was too fast! If he had been going OVER 15, he prolly wouldn't have made it out just fine as he did. So what if he's young?? Does every black man own a gun?? Idiots. Almost all of you. Yeah maybe he's made some driving errors in the past, not many i can think of, he's a GREAT driver, but at this moment in time, he made NO mistake except to drive SAFELY at a decent speed of 15 MPH on THIS CRAPPY ROAD! And by the way, those boys PAY FOR ALL of their cars THEMSELVES, so don't be jealous, just work harder...or something. lol. And auto-xin better in the FD?? i might be completely wrong.. but by looking at the pic.. it seems like NICK went little faster then he claim.. And I think thats why people are jumping all over you..

Looking at the pic, the passenger side of the car hit the concrete pillar.. then the car went off the the creek.. In order to knock the pillar in half, you are going lot faster than 15mph.. and hitting it will side of the car.. I could be wrong.. i'm just going by the pics.. it could be the front of the car.. and when I think of it, i don't think over 15mph impact on the passenger side door/fender area would be greater damage.. but it looks like it wasn't too bad.. if it was hit on that side..

well, I think we should give this kid a break.. We all did stupid things.. I still do it.. like getting into a small/minor fenderbender, because I was driving it being on the phone, looking at the commander (when I first bought my PFC), and got 4 hours of sleep..
