Top Gear RX7?

Did the BBC show, Top Gear, ever do a bit about the RX7? And if so, could you post a link to it for me

Thanks-

I think Top gear is the best show. Much better than anything over here. The only thing that comes close is Best Motoring/Hot Version. But Top Gear is much funnier and laid back while BMI makes me drool more.

bmi is more racing focused, top gear is more towards people who want car reviews and a good time (I love the Stig!)

The fd was never released in the UK so they never covered it. All ours are imports, would have loved to see it on top gear though

You don't hit 500bhp in an FD without chipping it

No fd`s were never released in the UK we have to import them personally! Our deffinition of import means we had to import it ourselves, you guys class an import as a non US made car, sorry for not being clear. We had RX7`s up `till the fd

**edit** OK just found out that apparently Mazda did a limited run of about 130 cars in the UK, so your right I apologise. Still not enough cars for the old version of top gear to have covered it

I assume that it is pretty easy to import them if that is the case then, eh? It isn't the first time I've heard that FD's were never exported to the UK, but I was under the impression that there were quite a few people in the UK with them.

any chance you have the torrent for it? anyone know of any Top gear specific channels on IRC or something.

I also saw the old episode w/ the 2nd gen 7 vs the 944. Great episode btw.

PS. Clarkson is the greatest anti-american i ever knew.

Top Gear did do a piece on the FD. Vikki Butler Henderson drove a 99 spec one (silver from memory) in a piece about grey imports. Never seen it online though.
Mazda sold the FD over here from 93 - 95 as a standard production model. They only sold 130 ish for a number of reasons, mainly the rotary reputation and the price (£34,000 to begin with).

Yes they sold UK Spec FD's in the UK. I've got one of them!

The most visual difference is the addition of the rear fog lamps into the rear bumper.

Mazda sold around 124 UK cars. About 100 of which were in the first two years of production and the rest were spread over the last two or three (June 1995).

I have on tape somewhere Jeremy Clarkson driving an FD RX7. It was about cars that were very good value second hand. He just about fits in it!

When the FD RX7 was first sold in England it was almost £40,000 but when no one bought it they dramatically dropped the price to almost £24,000 and killed it's second hand values stone dead.

Anyway he drives the car for about 5 minutes in the program, and then moves onto the Jaguar XJ220. £500,000 new about £150,000 second hand!

Top Gear have always loved the FD RX7 though.

He's way more anti-german cars. Watch him destroy a porsche.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=uWomqEroB...0destroy%20911

Besides, mostly he's honest. He trashed the mustang for having old technology but still put it on the "cool" wall. He mocks pontiac for the amazing engineering feat of getting 170bhp out of a 2.4 liter engine (solstice). But he likes the H2. Heck, he owns a Ford GT.

of course it had problems

Top Gear is great but they don't know much about aftermarket upgrades. Just a for instance they said that the drift cars are "chiped and nitrosed" up to 500bhp. There are a few other times the screw up with aftermarket stuff like with the Prodrive P2 he said that the wastegate was making the sneezing noise. Still a great show!!
