Took out the twins, but got some questions.

hello guys.

im in the process of rebuilting my motor and upgrading my twins to BNR3

i took the turbo out, wasnt that hard ,just finding the right size socket took the longest time.

now i got some questions after taking out the turbos.

Twins
1. is all the screws+nut come out together ? ( none are borken but a came out together.
like this

2. what is this (RED cicle) ? coolant line or oil?
and what is this thing of the exhaust manifold? it kinda flaps around
( green circle).

3. does this look crack to you ?

and finally the Brick oven is out

one more thing i whould like to know.

i have a mid pipe ,and while i was taking out the stock main cat
there was a tube connect on it, i just let it hang.

since i dont have my air pump and deleted the EGR so i thought it doesnt do anything.

is it ok just to let it be open with out a block off plate?

1. This is normal, most of mine came out like that too. Pick up a new set and use them when you re-install your twins (if you are staying with the twins that is)

2. Red circle is the oil return for the rear turbo, there is another port like it on the front cover for the front turbo. Green circle flapper opens up around 7psi to bring the second turbo online.

3. Those cracks look about normal for our (93-95) turbos, but its hard to tell, the picture is a little fuzzy.

Post #2 question. If you got a block-off plate kit, you should have gotten a plate for that too. if not, you should put one on there.

The cracking looks like the normal amount of cracking on the N3A1 turbos. Nothing exciting there.

The hole without the blockoff plate is no biggie. With the airpump removed it's a dead hole, it isn't doing anything. A blockoff plate will make it neater for what it's worth.

The flapper door in the exhaust manifold is the turbo control door. That's the main guy for the sequential system's magic. It prevents exhaust flow from going to the second turbo, then opens to bring it online.

The stud and nut - Mazda used the world's most aggressive locknuts. They will almost always pull the stud out. If you use good locknuts like the ones from ATP Turbo you won't have that problem.

Thank you guys very much. I'm just thinking should I go singal or upgrade to bnr3. The money almost cost the same. 2500$ for gt35r 2100$+ for bnrs. Supports mods will both be the same so it comes down to twins or singal. Lol headache time!

The costs are not the same. The single will cost more to setup properly.

Yes. Depending on the single turbo you might need a larger fuel system, and a different ignition. You would also need to adapt intercooler piping, and exhaust manifold.

If you get the BNRs they are much closer to being plug and play.

single turbo will guide u down the path of your fd being down for a while and a nice money pit. its a sucker punch and cost more then people realized. trust me i know and you'll slowly realize what you may not have factored in...

if u do however keep the twins i have a manifold that isnt cracked if your interested

Got that covered !! I'm half way done on gathering parts.
The parts I have now is
Haltech ps1k
Alky control meth kit
850/1680 fuel kit with aeromotive fpr
Ls2 coil
Magnacore race plugs
3bar
Open element ait sensor
Rp fuel pump

Almost done !
Final goal will be a quick fd with gt35r
But befor the fd gets to the gt35r , it will be running on stock non seq twin.
