Too rich?

I just bought an FD around the end of December. The guy I bought it from said the only mods have been a down pipe, cat back, and intake. Well, I had been planning to do some more mods myself, so I bought a boost gauge and an Autometer A/F gauge. It appears to be getting about 11 lbs pressure, but the A/F gague is showing I am running very rich at full boost, just one or two bars from the end. Is this right? Is the gauge innacurate, or has this guy done something that he'd neglected to tell me like reprogram the ECU, or is that just what the A/F ratio is with the few mods that have been done?

A/F gauges aren't the most accurate on our cars. PS: Rotaries, specially our boosted rotaries have to run rich, richer then most cars. Richness is a good thing.

running something about turbo rotaries - rich = good healthy engine. lean = bad blown apex seals.

welcome to the forums, check out the stickies and read lots or else you will blow your engine by doing the wrong mods.

Well thanks for your guys' responses. I understand that A/F gauges are pretty bad unless they are wideband, but I still didn't think that I would be running that rich.

And I really like this forum so far, and have read a lot of the stickies and such. The site is strangly... addicting lol

I would have to agree with you on the strangly addicting part. Rotarys are a lot better running on the rich side.

i agree, if you do get a wide band you want to be about 11.5 a/f under full boost. until then, rich=good
