Too Cold now with Scoot & bumper???
Quick background...
2 months ago : Oil Temps 105+, Water Temps 95, Hot Florida weather. So Added Dual Oil Cooler Kit (Crooked willow), used datalogit to turn fans on early. replaced a faulty relay, added water wetter and then had Oil Temps low 90's, water temp 85-87 , air temps 60's-70's (all Celsius of course) in about 70F outside weather.
NOW with very similar temperatures I'm getting Oil Temps 75-80C, Water temps 84-85, air temps high 40's.
Last night it was cold an I saw my oil temp at one point *quickly* drop into the 60;s before climbing back in the high 70's after a minute. I thought something was wrong.
My water temps are verified by PowerFC, datalogit, and an aftermarket gauge, my oil temps are measure by my a.m. gauge, and my air tems are measured by the PowerFC/datalogit.
Is this TOO cold for my oil? I haven't even put the CF o.c. ducts on the bumper yet. My oil pressure seems to follow the same patterns as it has these past months.
I'm currently using 20W50 as I was told not to use synthetic until my rebuilt turbos broke in (engine rebuild only has 3k miles on it too, turbos about 1k).

Correct me if i'm wrong, but shouldn't the oil and water thermostats close up in the event that the car isn't up to proper temp?
I know as cold as its been around here, i have trouble getting the car up to temp, and have seen it dip back to 79c on the PFC on the highway.
i've often thought our water thermostats are more of a on-off switch (basically wide-open once opened) than a real instrument for maintaining opperating temps

Yeah, and I know your joking but what worries me is that is does warm up to 85-9if I'm at a light sometimes not moving, but then the temps drop quick usually. I just drove back over the causeway and saw a spread between 75 and 90 on that drive.

AFAIK,
You'd want the oil temp to be around 180f (83c or so), and thats fairly well backed up by the 170f thermostat that your kit supposedly comes with. Just as a test, maybe try blocking all or a purtion of the passenger side cooler (maybe cover the opening w/cardboard), to see if the thermostat is actually sending oil there when the temps are that low or if its being bypassed. If its not flowing there, it shouldn't change anything.
This is just a guess... i don't own or have experience w/ your kit.

It's now in the 40's and 50's here in Texas and I have driven for extended periods where the oil temps never got past 70C or 158F. My normal cruising temp when ambient is above 80 is 75C or 165--168 F.
As far as the thermostat goes I never understood that because I have rarely seen it get to 180 deg.

and why don't you just reset the fans to come on at 90c (or the factory level) or so. The increased heat will also warm up the oil.

Ill screw with my fans when I get back and see how they affect (indirectly I guess) the oil temp. I guess I wont bitch. Low is good, I was just worried maybe it was too low for proper lubrication at times.
