Tips on removing rear axles from Diff?

I a bit embarrassed at such a Newb type question, as I have taken apart literally dozens of rear ends from both FCs and FDs, and know that sometimes they are just tight and you need to fight with them. But.. on this one Im doing now I just cant get the stubshaft out from the pumpkin. I have long prybars I have been pulling until it hurts, and I even called a friend to help try and get one on each side, and both of us couldnt get it to budge. Any tips or something Im overlooking? Any help is greatly appreciated, as for now I give up.

Once you have it free from the wheel hub, you just need to place the prybar between the diff and the axle and pop it out.

I had to use an actual crow bar! Hardest one I have ever done, I thought I was going to crack the diff! Give it a quick big yank.

It is just a little C-Clip that holds it. Put a pry bar on each side and give it a quick push, it wil pop right out. The more even the pressure on each side the easier it comes out.

Hope this helps,
Dan

Yep, I fully understand how it goes together. Like I had mentioned, I have owned many FCs and done work an alot more, I also have a write-up in the 2nd gen archive about how to swap a miata torsen into a FC diff, as well as torn apart a few FDs, so I am no stranger as how these go together. Its just I really cant get this sucker out.

I forget - if one side is out, can you look straight thru a torsen? If so, then you can drive it out from the other side.

But I'm guessing if that were possible you would have tried it by now.

I understand, but what I'm saying is you can't power it out. Give it a quick sharp push or pull depending on how you use the pry bar. I have yet to run across one that I can't pop out on the first try. What I do is get two pry bars, put one on each side with the bent part against the diff, put my weight against them and give a quick push. The tips are 180 deg. apart from each other when I give it a sharp push.

If I remember correctly there the invex gear blocks the 2 axle shafts so you would not be able to drive it out from the other side.

Something doesn't sound right inside the housing if it's being that stubborn. I agree that it took a quick pry action, but mine came out really easy.

^^ likewise. Something doesn't sound right.

I was able to literally pull mine out after disconnecting the axle from the suspension arm
