Tip for removing rust from rotors

It was a nice day here in Chicago on Saturday mid fifties and some sun.
I hadn't driven my car since around new years, it was nice then also.
Well, I noticed some rust had accumulated on the rotors. I have to tell
you the best way to remove surface rust from a rotor is to use it. So I did.
Car is running good. I had to be a bit carefull in second gear when the second
turbo came online. The roads were still a bit cool and the rear tires would spin
up a bit. What fun!!!
So for all of you out there with cars that have been sitting awhile and
have some rust on your rotors the best way I know to clean them is
take the car out for a drive, weather permitting. It will clean your rotors and
put a smile on your face.

I think many of us know this. But for fun sometimes I pull the wheels and lightly sand down the rest of the rotor to make them look nice to. This at least until I get some new rotors with zinc coating. This thread might get a little flaming though.

This was kind of meant as a joke. I hope the other threadsters have a sense
of humor. (g) The rust on the rotors was just an excuse to take my car out
for a spin. Not that I need an excuse.

The zinc coating will wear off the braking surface pretty quick so the actual rotors will still rust like normal ones. No problem really just take the can for a quick spin to get it off. It's still good to have the zinc coating to keep the rotor center hub from rusting though.

I think he knows that, he is just going to stop taking the rotors off to remove the rust from the surface that doesnt wear once he gets zinc coated ones.

oh yeah, and I'd take my car out for a drive if it had seats. Guess the rust on my rotors won't be taken off for a while

Exactly! Not the pad surface but the rest. At least someone has a little foresight.

apparantly the zinc coating will "burn off" if you get your rotors RED HOT. ask me how i know? now the non-braking surface areas have a deep red rust on them... anyone know paint that will stand up to whatever temp glowing rotors get?

Personally I like to keep a good coating of oil on mine. Should I use Synthetic or non-synthetic?

Seriously jaj1, I here ya. Got a couple of days in the mid-50s last week where I live too, with clean dry streets. I couldn't wait to take it out.
