Throw out Bearing?
It's a bearing that rides on the throw-out fork of the transmission. It's what lets your foot put pressure on the spinning clutch in order to disengage it.
When it's worn, or the bearings have gone dry, it'll make noise when you push and hold the clutch in. Could be a grinding noise, could be a squealing noise..
There's also a spring that holds it to the fork. If that breaks, you could have intermittent problems like trouble putting the car into gear, the clutch pedal might not "feel right."
Yes, it should be replaced if your replacing the clutch due to wear. Throw-out bearing, rear main seal, flywheel surface, pilot bearing & seal too.

well i am upgrading clutch and flywheel ala SR internet special...9.5 lb flywheel and act street strip clutch...do i need to buy anything else?
Currently i have slippage..the clutch isnt old it just cant hold the power my fd makes now. I asked the question about the throw out bearing b/c i read that a sign of a worn bearing is a rattling noise when the clutch is out and you are in nuetral..i have this noise but no other problems. The rattling isnt bad but it is audible...is this normal...?

The SR special comes with everything you need: pressure plate, clutch disc, throwout bearing, release bearing, alignment tool, flywheel, counterweight.. everything but the rear main seal and a SS clutch line. Replace the rear main seal when you are in there for sure, I didn't do mine and it is leaking a bit now.. I am still kicking myself for not heeding other people's advice here.
