Throttle body vaccum leak?

Hey guys,

I was doing an oil change on my 94 rx7, and I was almost done. I went to go for the oil filter, I took off my intake that goes from the intercooler to my throttle body. I changed the filter, went to put the intake back on, broke one of the studs on the throttle body. I figured I would just prime the system, and change the stud the next day.
I started her up to prime, it started and idled fine. Checked my vaccum gauge it was idling at 10''. It was jumping from 10'' to 8''. And I noticed grey smoke coming out the exhaust. I figured it was from that stud being off and not sealing the bottom left. Now with the intake leaking or a vaccum leak. Would this cause this type of problem?
I fixed the stud, bolted her back up, and it still the same. Idling at 10'' and smoke still coming out the back. I pulled my dip stick out, and it seems a bit fuel fouled.
Now I dont really know much about cars, or rotorys. Ive had the car for about 3 years, and this is the first main problem ive ever had. Cept for eating all my clutches up. So im kinda stumped.
So far I have not put a load on the motor. And dont plan to until I can figure it out

Mods are...
Stock motor, with 58k miles on it. Stock turbos. Power FC tuned for 14 psi. Cat back exhaust. With no cat. Hope I was detailed enough.
I just dont know what to goto next, seeing I still think its the intake, just its sealed, and the problem still exists. Any ideas? Thanks guys

Did you knock the vacuum hose off of your MAP sensor?

There has been a lot of unneeded and sloppy maintenance practices lately being done by newbs.

Never in 12 years have I ever taken off an intake elbo to change the oil filter on my or other owners cars. It is just not needded. None of my freinds do it either.

Also none have ever broken any of those studs. Mazda does list torque specs for all fasteners for our engines.

Use them with the proper torque wrench and this will not happen unless they were previously damaged by a previous apprentice.

Thats great that you never had to, but I have to. I would apprecate help, not newb crap this newb crap that. I dont see how taking a ebow off is stupid nor do I see breaking a stud is either. We as a people make mistakes all the time.
(I would love to see you get a torque wrench down there, Lol.)

Ill check the map sensor, and I guess I will also check compression, just to be sure.

Thanks for the sugestion JD, and cewrx7r1 please dont waste space on my thread if you are not going to be of any help.

I doubt whether the stud missing is your problem. Just look for a loose vacuum line in that area.

An easier method for removing your filter is to use a cap shape object that fits over the top of the filter like a socket. The cap has a square slot in it for a 3/8" extension and ratchet. Most auto parts sell these.

I would also suggest that you check the large O-ring on the face of the throttle body opening. If the O-ring is significantly dried out or you inadvertently knocked a chunk out of the O-ring, this could cause an air leak. Your symptoms sound like an air leak is the cause.

BTW, I just tryed to start her again after double checking everything, It still wont start, but there is this BUZZING sound by the Idle Air Control.
It all starts when I try to start her, if I leave the key in Right after I tryed to start, it keeps buzzing.

Any idea or has this happened to anyone? Thanks!

Did you manage to flood it? Check the spark plugs to see if they are wet.

Your ISC sounds like it is stuck, as it will buzz like that. Unplug it and see and check the plugs.

I was thinking flooded too. I pulled the sparks on the rotor closes to the flywheel. And they smelled fuel fouled, and were a bit wet. I cleaned them up a bit, and put em back in. Im about to start on the plugs nearest the belt.

Subzero, How would I go about testing the ISC? Check voltage? How would I see? What should I look for? I dont have a manual, and PFD's dont seem to wanna work on my comp anymore.

And I wont beable to buy a manual till tuesday cus of the storm.

Thanks guys!
