For those of you wondering about engine removal.
First off, the only things I've done to my car was replace the radiator, install a catback and spark plugs, I've never done anything similar to this, and it was really a peice of cake.
I left my house at about 11 to pull the engine+tranny, got there had to clear space for the car/work area and finnaly got it on jackstands with ramp bases for tire support (just in case) and stopped joking around at 2ish.
I started removing stuff (stock cat, stock intercooler, elbow...) and then got side tracked again. At 6ish I went and picked up a friend and got the compressor and engine lift out of storage. We got serious around 7, and had the engine and tranny hanging above the car (see below) at 10:30. Thats with a brief stop because I was worried about something going thru my radiator, so I removed that as well.
No real problems, actually easier than I though, having a friend with good automotive experience (tho in v8's) helped, and he said several times that he wishes he could pull the engine in his camaro as quickly as we did mine.
I'll update this thread as the rebuild continues if anyone is intrested.

A serious suggestion dont rebuild it yourself go to jeff gladish at maztech in tampa. he is reasonably priced and has been doing it for 35 years. A really honest guy. Also go with stock 3mm seals out of the older engines. Do it right or dont do it at all because this engine sucks and it needs to be perfect if its gonna last more than a week.

I'm taking it to Dave in Orlando. I'm most likely going to do the RA master rebuild kit, with new housings and rotors.
Good job!
What's the reason for pulling the engine and trany?

haha...Good to see someone doing their own work. It's not hard at all to do any of the work. It just takes time and the right tools.

Ben,
Looks like fun! I'm sure you're excited about having more power from a fresh motor. It seemed last we talked though, you were more interested in staying relatively stock. Anyways, when do you expect to have everything back together again?

I hope you marked all the wires and hoses to the engine. It's very confusing once you have the engine back in the engine bay.
The hard part is transferring all the parts to a new motor. that's where you'll make mistakes.
Take digital photos etc..

but yes they like to be perfectionate (SP?).
Building the motor isn't all that hard just requires patience and the
will to learn.

Alright guys, I've move ahead, getting the tranny off gave us a hard time for awhile, but finnaly it came out.
Now all I've got left is the rats nest and solenoids. I've decided to do the full non sequential conversion instead of having to deal with all those damn hoses again.
I will be taking the motor to get rebuilt on monday.

Just 2 starter bolts, 2 slave cylinder bolts, 5 trans bolts, and (what many people fail to do) release the retaining ring from the throw-out bearing with a quick flip of a screwdriver.

I really like to see forum members helping forum members with positive remaks and sharing experiance.
I decided to take this task on myself because when it's back together I'll apreciate it that much more, and if something breaks, It'll be a peice of cake because I know the car pretty well now.

I know how you feel. I had little to know experience with working on cars. lol but i have taken my engine in and out twice now this summer and its cake work. Putting it back in is not the hard part since you took the tranny out with the motor, that makes it much easier.

Slipping clutch, low compression, just a tired setup. 83k on original motor/tranny. And a street port never hurt anyone
