for those who've painted their fd

for those who have painted your fd's another color than original how did the engine bay look afterwards. i remember seeing this one fd that was painted silver but the engine bay was still original and with the hood up it looked really nasty. same with the door and trunk and other hidden places, do they also paint that? pics would be great.

My car was black, and I had painted it CYM, so the engine bay blended. At least I think so. Black and yellow are easy to work with, but I don't think there are to many other colors you could get away with.

Well if the photo gallery was up I'd show you pics of mine... my car is blue and the engine bay is black. It dosn't look that bad. I think it depends on what color you go with. Like silver and red wouldnt look that good, but silver and white might be OK..

And I had them paint everything but the engine bay.. door jams, under the molding.. looks very nice..

It would help greatly if your car was originally a nuetral color: Black, and silver would be the best bets. White might also work depending on the new color.

You GOTTA paint all the other stuff: jams, trunk etc. The engine bay is all you can get away without painting if its a good color.

they paint the whole car whatever color the car was, so you will ALWAYS be able to fine the original color somewhere. your best bet is to keep the new color close.

Anybody done a drastic color change? Like blue from red? I'd like to see how that looks. I've always thought that electron blue color on Supra's and Z06's is an awesome blend. I'd love to do something like that .... if it doesn't look too bad.

Check out JimLab's "Latest Progress on my RX-V8-7 monstrosity" thread. The last page of it he posted pictures of his new paint job(Electron Blue).

yea, that's what i meant. i have a montego blue and want to change it to silver. it'll probably look weird if they don't paint all the door jams, trunks, cracks, etc.

I had a 97 Prelude that was black and I had it repainted dark orange with a harlequin coat over that. It blended awesome with the black.

I will be painting my car soon (remember you came to see my wheels awhile back?), anyway every body shop I spoke with said its completely acceptable to have a black engine bay and any other color for the rest of the car. Aparently that is the way domestics are made anyway. Other colors look weird according to what I have heard.

I debated for along time either yellow or black, now that I converted my interior to all black, I like the look and will keep it black when I repaint this fall.

I had my VR FD painted Toyo Super white..

Anybody with a repaint would deffinatly get the
door jams, trunk jam and underhood painted.
.. Thats a no brainer.

But pulling the motor to paint the inside engine wells
IMO wasn't a good idea. To have a Body/paint man
yanking my beloved heart of my FD3S out.

Obviously any engine bay with dark neutral colors, as posted before won't make a diff, like blk, dark blue, and
even silver. But in my case from Red to White, is
very noticable. The hood jams and to struts were
painted, and a inch down the firewall were also painted
but Engine wells arne't.. Still red.. And is the only way
anyone ever notice that the car was repainted.

Don't worry when the day come when my FD3S has
a heart attack and need a new heart.. I already got
a high heat flat white spray can waiting..
