For those with stock midpipe/cat laying around

I was talking to Cam at Pettit Racing about another shops recommendation about replacing the stock midpipe/cat. He said something interesting, the stock cat, good or bad is made out of pure platinum, his scrap metal guy buys them for $350 each. Just a heads up for some people, because I know a lot of you just throw them away or sell them for dirt cheap on the forums.

Feel free to send any donations my way,

Haha there was just a recent WTB ad that was offering $85 shipped for as many cats as he could get...I thought it was a bit odd.

Wow, so for those of us looking for local people that buy cats, do we just search in our yellow pages for metal recyclers? If I can get $300 for both my precat and main cat, I'd be stoked!

yeah recycling these is a good option.. thought they went for $150ish but i guess the fd ones have a bit more of the good stuff in them

precats are probably good for a few $$ too

and yes mods shouldn't be hiding this fact from members..

I am not sure how much the downpipes are worth, probably not as much as the midpipe.

And how exactly do we argue to the metal recyclers that these cats have more precious metals than normal cats?

Good money but i think i'll keep mine. You never know if you'll need it again and i don't want to fork out $600 for a new one.

$95 for a Magnaflow.

You guys DO realize there is less than 1 gram of this "pure platinum" in the cat, right?
About $50 when it is all said and done, provided you can 'crack' it out of the substrate, separate out all the palladium and rhodium and OTHER exotic metals.....
Should only cost the average joe a few hundred bucks to get his $50 worth of platinum.
