Unhappy Thirsty car... odd

Recently i did a hose job, replacing all the vacuum lines as well as coolant lines. For some odd reason once a week or so my coolant light comes on and when it does I refill it with about half cup of coolant and that does the trick. But another week or so the light comes on again! Its been this way for about 3 months and I dont understand why its doing this? I dont see drips or puddles under my car either. Nor do I smell burning coolant while the car is running or parked. What do you guys reckon? I did some search but I dont think I'll have a bad hose.

My car was doing the a similar thing and it ended up having a bad coolant seal. If its only a half a cup a week maybe its just a small leak and an amount of coolant too small to smells burns each time. Or there may just be air caught in you system and its taking a while to burp out. I'm just a newb, but those are my thoughts.

It sounds very much like a coolant o-ring leak. Since you are losing that much coolant every week, yet you don't see any of that coolant, I would take a bet on the coolant o-rings. There are many ways to test it -- I'd do a search. (champagne test, pressure test, exhaust gasses in the coolant, oil in the coolant, etc.)

I just got this engine on December 2003 from Malloy's and I know for a fact it isn't a coolant o-ring problem. Why does eveyrone always say the engine is about to blow or o ring failure with the slightest problems? Its only been happening since I installed the Koyo radiator since the new engine was dropped in. Anyone else care to chime in besides "ur engine is about to blow" comments?

Could be air bubbles or something getting out of the system and it wasn't able to fill up all the way in the first place, but it sounds like its been quite some time since the radiator etc....

Yes, I agree. If you *just* put your radiator in, it could be airgaps, but after 3 months, I really doubt it's air stuck in the system anymore.

Are you sure you are not kicking coolant out of your overflow? If so, it could also be your coolant caps.

Mines did this too when i changed a hose. You just have to keep adding more and eventually it will stop going down.

You live in NYC, I hope you have a garage...

If you do, is there any sign of water on the garage floor?

Can you do a pressure test to see if any hoses are leaking?

check for small holes in your radiator/coolant hoses, it may be leaking a drop every few minutes while the system is under pressure. Make sure its not leaking onto your turbos, but also check around the TB.

Just an idea.

I dont have a indoor garage but I got a private space parking in the neighborhood, and I dont see any coolant leak on the ground. Only some drops of oil from the turbo that I know of.

I'm almost 100% sure there can't be a hole in the hoses since I just replaced all the radiator and coolant hoses just 3 months ago. I guess my best bet is to pressure test.

i dont see your point here, it seems like most noobs on this forum like to start solving one's problems by saying stuff like "oh u got ur O Ring failure happening there" or "time for a new engine but u know there is a 30 people wait at Malloys" wtf is wrong wit you uneducated noobs? pisses me offff!!!

bingo

check the radiator cap and the thermostat cap make sure they are the right pressure. New reman means nothing to me. Ask around people have problems with them all the time.

Malloy Mazda is a mazda dealership that sells a lot of oem rx7 parts. They do not build the engines they just buy them and sell them to you. Any mazda dealership would get the remans from the same source. because they sell so many engines they may have more new parts inside but the same people are still assembling them. I know of a few people specifically on the forum who have had the o ring failure on their reman shortly after installing it. thats what the warranty is there for. just wake up and realize that this happens all of the time and nobody knows how to rebuild rotarys still.

i hope thats not your issue though

If you think that we are all uneducated n00bs, then why do you even bother to ask? I gave you reasonable information. You said that you never *SAW* any leaks, but there could be. Thus, I told you to try a pressure test; heck, you could even throw some UV dye in there if you really wanted to. I also said it could be your coolant pressure caps, as they could wear and cause the coolant system to kick coolant out of the overflow tank.

If you weren't such a "noob," then maybe you could have done a search. There are probably a million threads about people "losing coolant" but never seeing it.

first off I did a search which is the reason why I posted my own thread since it wasn't clear on other possibilities.

second of all I was talking to the "noobs" as in the idiots who always give their first response that the engine is blown or its about to blow.

and finally third, didn't point you out as being the noob yet you answered back, which makes you what? a noob defending himself ROFL

SWAT, your engine is fine. Do all other necessary checks mentioned.

The most annoying thing I constantly see on this board:
"It's O-ring failure, you probably need a new engine."

actually I just realized that my coolant neck cap was originally from my old stock AST tank. I'm gonna be replacing it with a greddy or blitz cap from RX7store.
