Things That **** You Off About Your FD

Thought I would start a thread about the most annoying things, that may or may not have easy fixes.

these are my current annoyances:

1. Stupid Bose CD player, past it's use by date with no hope of keeping things stock. (probably my biggest complaint)

2. Lack of expertise with Mazda dealers when going in for service or repairs - seems they always create more problems or break another plastic wiring loom anchor point when doing general servicing

3. Clunks, knocks and rattles - seems like I have a new noise I don't like every week. Pity the dead Bose CD player no longer works to drown them out.

4. Polishing the car - how the hell do you get the centre of the Maxda logo swirl free. And trying to polish around the stuck on "Mazda RX7" letters without lifting them off from the tail end of the car .... ?

Come to think of it, not really much to whinge about, but I am sure there are others who have more.....

The fact where-ever i go everyone seems to want to race me.

All the MALE attention it gets and therefore lack of female attention it gets.

, and the constant boost leaks i used to get on mine.

There really wasn't much i didn't like about my FD. Couldn't complain about the radio either, cause the previous owner took everything out.

I don't like that in order to fix ANYTHING, you have to remove a dozen other things to get to what you want to fix.

Agreed. But in fairness, I don't think that's particularly unique to the FD. I have a good friend with a twin-turbo 300Z. Like going to a WALMART makes me feel thinner... it always makes me feel better about the FD to look under his hood.

noone ever wants to race me...hell, they wont even look at me. there really isnt any decent cars worth racing though, just my friends 350z and a silvia i never see around. i saw 1 guy with an fd identical to mine and he refused to race, pisssed me off so much.

boost leak, coolant light comes on when i start the car in the morning... i think its due to a leaky water pump (the hardest part is figuring out what's wrong... i'm sure most of you know that by now...), faded paint on my back bumper, and i think i need a new fuel filter. aside from all that, the car is awesome. i like my tires....

I agree. But on a positive note, it's a legitimate and great excuse to get those removed parts ceramic-coated or polished (UIM, TB, WP, WP Housing, etc). Also, a good time to replace those hoses (vac + coolant) if haven't already or you're unsure if previous owner did or not!

That's what happened to me when my WP failed...went ahead and ceramic-coat/polish almost everything else. Replaced all hoses and replaced some o-rings/gaskets/etc....now, just awaiting FDNewbie's VMIC and my engine bay will be complete dress-up wise!

This pisses me off more than anything, guys ALWAYS seem to know how...err... "special"... it is to see an FD. They'll be like jumping out of their windows to talk to me. Girls are just like "Hey, nice car!"

Having to explain to everyone how fragile the car is, then telling them the only way to close the door is to slam it!

My passenger side sits an inch higher than driver.

I have to always run the fans on for a bit after each drive (moreso in the warmer months) to lessen heatsoak.

I had a bucking problem whenever my headlights were on about 2 years ago, ever since then im paranoid to go anywhere far at nightime IF in fact i do drive the car at night which is very rarely due to that incident back then.

ZERO low end torque (non seq). I get tailgated like a mother whenever i city drive the car, people are always in a rush around here.

And like someone said, parking lots. When i take my car to work, i always park in the corner, all the way to the side yet people still find a way to go over their line, getting into my space anyway so when they open their doors, BANG! OPPS!

No radio - who needs one just step on it and listen to the open wastegate

Hard to work under the hood - convert to single turbo and FMIC makes it a lot easier

Interior plastic breaking - take it all out including the rear seats and put a full roll cage in it

Gauges that don't read right - put in Defis

Paint issues - just repaint in then you can pick what ever color you want (I went with ChromaLusion)

I guess we all have things that annoy us sometimes the list is a little of what I've done. But like axnjaksn said it wouldn't be any fun if you never had problems, b/c more then likely you wouldn't be messing with it.

My thing would probably be wishing I had more money b/c just when you think you are done there’s always one more part that I want.

My coolant alarm was like that, just before the AST blew it's guts. It starts with a very small hairline crack which drops the level of coolant in the AST overnight - when you start coolant is topped up from the overflow and problem temporarily goes away.

yeah, I hate that too - if you bump your idle speed up a touch, it helps
