One other thing is the bolts that secure the compressor to the turbo manifold instead of the big c clips.

Yep, those are definitely '99 spec 280hp turbos. You can see the black abradeable seal inside the compressor housing by the compressor wheel.

If they're a fair price, get those suckers!

It looks like you have abraidable turbos but I thought that 99 Spec turbos had a N3G1 serial #. Check this thread:

As far as Mazda are concerned the 99-02 versions (series-8) come in 3 levels.

N3G1 = 280ps
N3G2 = 265ps
N3G3 = 255ps

I've heard several other people refer to the 99 spec turbos as 280hp turbos. And I'm not trying to be a dick, but the 99 spec cars didn't just have 280 b/c of the turbos did they? I thought it was the total combination of upgrades, efini y-pipe, better turbos, etc. With all that in mind I don't think it's really worth the money for the *slightly* better turbos, when that money might be better well spent on other upgrades for the car.

Good catch...The pics of the thread seem identical to the ones at ebay.

Are the '99 spec turbos considerably better than the turbos in our '93/'94/'95 cars?

I wouldn't say "considerably," but they have a few improvements. They spool up a little quicker, and are supposedly more efficient at low boost levels (ie 10psi).

I emailed the seller and got a reply to send money via electronic mail.

I emailed ebay and do not know if that made any difference but the item has been removed? [at 2120 hrs aprox]

Hey Cruiser,

Did you ever solve your ignition break up? Did you go with a spark amp? I'll be interested to hear what kind of hp you get with the abradable turbos!

Yes... found them few days back at UK eBay. I sent the seller an email, asking what is the sign on the label of the turbos (cant be read from the picture) - to make sure he has them and that they indeed are the 280hp ones. What a coincidence - he never replied, lol

At 650 pounds new thay would be a steal and even though I dont need a set now, I would definately buy them at that price But I would arrange for pickup, hehe.

I havent been driving much in the past months. I installed a full 3" exhaust now and I will change the plugs before the season starts. I think my top end is much better now and I may not need an amp. Will be hitting the dyno soon though to get some results in. If I still do get breakup, then I may go the PFC route. M2 Stage3 ECU + HKS TP is same price as PFC with commander nowdays. But I'd need a map from which I could fine tune. At 12-13psi that I run, I really shouldnt be needing an amp (have new grounds and new plug wires already).

They could be 99spec turbos, (as in made in 1999+) but they are not the RZ 280hp 99spec turbos.

I thought all '99 and up were 280 hp turbos? I suspected that these were the 265hp RZs from a '97 FYI.
