Question thermosensor location?

I am fixing some hoses and the cooling fans and I am installing my defi water temp gauge. I am at this point. I have removed the turbo crossover pipe and the thermostat housing. I need to know if I can access the thermoswitch form here without removing alt. If anybody knows where exactly it is and how I can get to it. included some pics.

Which thermosensor do you want to get to? there are three! One on the back of the water pump, below the thermostate (one with green plug) and two more under the UIM (on the fuel rails I think, or near by). I just posted a thread about replacing the one behind the water pump. Viewing the parts catalog gives a good indication of location. If nothing else, it makes a good supplement to the shop manual.

^Are you talking about the INTAKE AIR thermosensor? When I read his post, I thought he was talking about the thermoswitch that controls the fans and is located on the back of the waterpump housing. For that you must remove the alternator.

Sonix7, Your thread title says "thermosensor" but in your post you refer to the 'thermoswitch".

Ahh, the thermoswitch. Backside of the filler neck. Black socket. I believe you have to remove the alternator. The green socket is the thermosensor for the ECU. The thermosensor for the gauge is located elsewhere on the block.

^Yep. You need to take off the IC tubing, loosen the belts and remove the alternator. It's tight, but you'll see two plugs with wires on the back of the waterpump housing. The bottom one (black) is the one you need to change.
FWIW, there was another recent post by someone who removed the pump housing to change this, (and he had pics) but I didn't have to. It's tight, but I was able to use an open-end wrench and just took my time. I also didn't drain all the coolant, just siphoned it out of the filler neck until it was below the level of the switch. It really wasn't all that bad of a job. Couple of hours max.
