It says 280ps which is about 276hp.

There was a Type R FD in Japan, just had shorter gearing than the regular 4.1 gearing, I believe it was 4.3. It's been around for a long time, even before the RZ.

I don't know about the type R, but I do know that there was a model called the Spirit R, although I don't know what the extras were on it.

yes, there was Type R in Japan. Also Type RZ, Type RB. Type RZ is Special limited model.
Type R is the top model. Type R Bathurst is a special limited model of Type R.
Spirit R's are the Special limited final production model.

Both Dragon and Igy have Type R FD's....and neither had 4.3 finals .

Most Bone stock FD's here(well, in Japan) have 2 oil coolers, cloth seats, 4.1 final gear, and red front strut tower bar. Almost NONE have automatic tranny's or leather seats.

Do they even offer leather seats on FDs in Japan? I got a 2002 RX-7 brochure from Japan, and every single picture of the interior has cloth seats, so I was kinda wondering about that...

The Type R's have never had shorter gearing and have always been 4.1. They have been available as a standard model in japan from the beginning unlike most others(Type X, Type RB, etc.)

It's available...but it's rare...and the japanese don't really want it....It's not like the states where people WANT it...they DON'T in Japan.

Nope, not exactly. The RZ was a standard model for most years (92-98). Only the 2000 RZ was limited(175 made).

Type R has never really been a 'top model' per se. Models like the RS or the RZ have always had more features. For instance, 16inch were always standard on Type R while the RS had standard ewuipment like 17 inch wheels, larger brakes, better suspension, etc.

There were no production limits on the 2002 Type R Bathurst but there was a 2001 Type R Bathurst R which was limited(500 made) as well as offered in sunburst yellow. Both models were based on the standard Type R, hence the inclusion of the Type R in their name.

Totally forget about the RS. Type R is the "base" MT model

Spirit R is the last production run of RZ-7. Only 1500 cars will be made. 3 models of Spirit R were made.

Type C is the 4 speed AT model
Type B is the Touring MT model
Type A is the sport MT model

I have a type R and it has a 4.1 rear end also. The only FD with 4.3 gears was the Australia-only SP monster. Correct me if there were others but I dont think so.

What are your sources for the RZ production numbers? You may want to double-check them. For the 2000 RZ, mazda'a own press release states "The Type RZ has a custom body color-snow white pearl mica. Only 175 units of this limited edition model will be sold." and the 175 number was also listed on the official website. I double-checked my Japanese brochures and it looks like you're right about no Type R Series VII cars.

rpm_pwr: The RZ model was the first FD to get a 4.3 final gear as standard equipment.

Pic from 1992 RX-7 Brochure. The CYM Type S looks nice.
