Testing interest in Aero headlights...
Whats up guys. I was wondering if there is a high enough demand for 3rd gen aero headlights for me to start fabricating and selling them. Right now i can make them for 1st gens, and i am working on the 2nd gen setup. I have a friend with a 3rd gen will to let me borrow the car to fab some up as long as he gets to keep them on his car. I would sell these as complete kits or as housing alone making the customer able to chose his/her own light combination and keep costs down. Prices would probably be around $400 set with lights ready to install and plug in & $250 for just bolt in housings. At those prices i beat every other manufacturer. Think its worth a go?
i can have pics of the 1st and 2nd gen headlights in a week or so.

There is always interest for lights for the FD, since the lighting is very poor stock. However many claims of people making lights have come and gone. They always end up being Vaporware. I suggest if you are serious about, that you do a little research. There isn't as much room to fabricate good lighting in the FD. Some after-market lights bulge above the regular lines to do this, or require cutting part of the frame material.
I'm already doing it for the 1st gens. 2nd gen will be available in a week or so. I havent got to look at the 3rd gen with the headlight out yet but i will take certain things into consideration.
p.s. Vaporware?
p.s. Vaporware?
Vaporware - as in, people say they're gonna make it, maybe crank out one prototype, but never get production going where people can actually buy a product.
Many of the FD non-popup headlight kits (even $$$ ones like RE Amemiyas) use fog lights, and the lighting is actually WORSE than stock. You would also need to prove that the lighting is actually superior than stock - many people want improved lighting, not just the look of non pop-ups.
Any links to pics of your other kits that you've built?

no not yet. i only have pics before that. i have 1 complete setup in my 1st gen and two housing setups for first gen. the 2nd gens are underconstrustion right now and should be done shortly. 2 weeks
good quality comes with time. i could charge $300 with no good lights, hacked up thrown together housings and get them out in 2 days. however, my work is my name. I cant just throw **** together. I am considering using 85w bulbs to get very good lighting but i would be worried about people flashing their brights at you vause this would be like driving around with your brights on.
vetter,
You'll get a better response when you can post pictures. While it may seem vain, most (if not all) 3rd Gen owners really care what it looks like, then how it performs.

How about a "knightsports" knock off. There are allready many options for removing the pop-ups.
I would prefer:
1. HID lighting
2. No frame cutting
3. $700ish price range
4. High and Low beams
5. Retaining the "pop-ups" ala "sleepy light" (I think it adds to the sports car feel, something about pop up headlights)

give it a shot... if you can do it right and offer a price advantage you won't be able to make them fast enough.
i am planning to switch to non-popups this winter as the area freed up is THE place for 2 K&N filters and is the ultimate answer to obtaining real cold air. (thnx Kevin T)
good luck,

Obviously there is interest in the product just from the replies here. However you should review the lights here to get a good idea of the space constraints and what you are up against.
Majority of owners I talked to in the past who have installed clear lens style light told me about the clear lens fogged up during rain or wet weather due to moister can easily get into the lens. This is one important consideration if you are try to fab a light system for FD.
It should definitely include HID lighting or at least have an option for HID. There is no way that I could justify (to myself) spending $500 to $1000 on lighting without upgrading to HID.
Build it, and they will come.
Talk about it, mock up a half-baked prototype, hype everyone up, or ask for money up-front, and you'll go no place like the umpteen other would-be light kit producers.
Call when you have a finished product, ready for sale, and we'll form a line :-)

The best light in the world wouldn't sell if it looks like ***.
