Test driving an FD, but need to bring my own tires/wheels

Hey, There is an FD for sale a little ways away from me. The owner sold his wheels of the car, and it is currently sitting on blocks. If I want to test drive the car I need to bring wheels/tires.

I have a set of stock wheels from my Skyline which I just sold, and was wondering if anyone know if a 16x6.5" wheel with and offset of +40 will fit on all corners of the FD. This is just for test-driving purposes and to get it back home if I want to buy the car.

Clearance of the caliper shouldnt be a problem, because my Skyline had pretty big brakes... I am more worried about inner clearance to the suspension.

Thanks!
Aaron

The wheels will have to be at least 16", have the same bolt pattern, and be pretty close to 50mm offset to fit.

HOWEVER, what sort of weirdo demands that a prospective buyer brings his own wheels for a test drive?

+50 is stock and they sit pretty sunk in and close to the suspension. you should be able to put a +40 on there fine. i have a +15mm spacer on the rear of mine with type RZ bbs wheels and they fit fine. (basically making the wheel a +35) i can easily swap the spacers to the front and the +15 will fit there too. I had 18x7.5 in the front +40 and they fit pretty well.. could have been spaced out a bit but..

Bolt pattern and lugs would be the big concern. I don't know what the Skylines used. You may want to see if anyone on the NW list in the regional section has a set of stockers they would loan you. I know there are several FD owners on the list that are in Bellingham. If you were closer I'd let you borrow the set of stockers that I have, but I'm about 5 hours south of you.

the car is LHD. I kind of want to get something normal, move away from the "JDM" thing. IMO the only cars that should be RHD here are ones not available in LHD.

I belive the owner was in a pinch and had to get some cash, so he managed to sell the 18's that were on the car. The Skyline offset is 5x114.3 so it's the same for sure. These will fit if you say a +50 will be ok.

As for that Autopower bar, I'll PM you once I find a car. I was pretty big into the whole solosprint/autox thing with my Skyline, and will be looking for a bar for whatever car I pick up next. Autopower is SCCA approved, right? Is it a 4pt or 5pt..

I found another FD as well, it is really clean but is quite high on the k's... 106,000 to be exact. The owner says the engine has not been rebuilt, so I assume it is getting close to the end of it's life. The car is well priced, and basically mint... so a rebuilt wouldn't be too bad IMO. What do you think?

They'll fit fine as far as clearing the suspension/fenders. There shouldn't be a problem with the brakes either.

You'll need to measure the bore size. I couldn't quickly find the stock bore size for your wheels, but the FD is 67.1.

My current car has close to 116k KM on it and it runs very well. i havnt done a compression test, i need to in the next week or so. I beat the crap outta my car. at least once a day i take it to redline. i am pretty maticluous on making sure fluids are good and the regular tune up stuff is done. motor is stock, only "power" mod is a catback exhaust.

I guess I was a little unclear, the car has 106k miles (165,000kms). But the condition it is in really shows it's been well taken care of. The car apparently runs strong, so if the engine has lasted that long it's definatley been well take car of.

I don't mind a rebuild anyways. I learned in the last year how to pretty much rebuild a piston engine, so it would be cool to learn how to do the same to rotaries. And before anyone says "do you know what you're getting into"... yes, I do.
