Thumbs down Tell me what's making my car make a 007 smoke screen of burnt oil!

Ok, I have been having this problem with a huge amount of blue smoke from the tailpipe. I have a downpipe, midpipe, and catback. I am sure it's oil, it's blue and smells like burnt oil. It started about a week ago and has been getting worse and worse.

Right when I start the car in the morning, it will be perfectly clear for about 3-4 seconds then it will start spewing oil smoke. This leads me to believe that it is my turbos. I thought maybe since the oil lines to the turbos are dry on startup, then it takes a few seconds for the oil pump to pump oil to the turbos, correct? Does this make sense to believe it's the turbos? Please help me!

p.s. I tried taking off the oil cap while it was idling and it seemed to make the smoke a lot thinner, but I put the cap back on and closed the hood so I could go for a drive. Right when I put some load on the engine, it started smoking huge amounts. This makes another strike against the turbos.

if your crank case (oil pan) is being pressurized (i.e, you capped both nipples on the oil filler neck) then your oil control rings will float, and you will experience smoking

otherwise, if your turbo seals are shot, it will burn oil too

Ok, update:

I have some good news: I ran the car without the oil cap and drove it around the block. I couldn't see any oil coming from my car. But at idle, I can still see/smell burnt oil, but it is wayyyy less. It's a very light, small amount at idle, and I can't even see any while im driving, but i'm sure it's just too small of an amount to see. Well, I think I still need to replace my turbos to get rid of all the smoke, what do you think?\

Mileage would really help to diagnose your problem. But it does sound like your turbos are shot.

if you drive with thet oil cap off, the oil pan can't pressurize...the rest of the smoke was probably just residue burning off

i dont think it's your turbos, i think you have a crankcase ventilation problem

agreed- the turbos wouldn't get better or worse with the cap off. Make sure the PCV valve is good for starters and that you didn't cap off the fittings on the filler neck as mentioned.

The thing is, I don't have a PCV valve any more. I just ran a line from one of the nippes, to a catch tank, then to the primary turbo inlet elbow. I capped the other nipple.

Wait, is the oil pan SUPPOSED to pressurize and the PCV valve opens at a certain pressure?
