Jconn, shut the hell up. I know you have been on these boards for a long time... but you are just being unreasonable. The fact is that every generation is les and less disciplined. Quit encouraging an inadvertant suicide.

Well, it's hard to keep the passger side window in its track because of all the chicks who keep banging on it asking for a ride. And if you don't keep enough condoms in the glovebox you'll find yourself down at the clinic asking for a shot because every once in a while you'll pick up on a skank who will leave you with a "social disease." Damn, dude. There's a lot of fun in store for a measly $5,000.

The most important question here is...

Who's buying it?

I swear i see a new one of these threads every day! what is with these kids?!?

its like beating a dead horse in here, dont get an RX-7! i dont care how much you want one for a first car or how cool you want to be or how fast you want to go! I'm only 20 and i know what being a teenage driver is like, and i know for sure if i had my rx7 then i wouldnt be here and my car wouldnt either.

When i was 16 i got stuck with a 95 ford thunderbird V6. It was slow, crappy and RWD. i wasnt a bad driver really, but i made mistakes, and you WILL TOO! i found myself going backwards through a fence and realized what snap oversteer was like. i also found myself sliding past a car that just ran a stop sign in front of me and understeering into a tree. I totaled that car.
I am thankful today however that it was just a beater car and not something i really cared about, or something that someone else might car about, like a RX7. I have learned what to do to avoid crashes and stupid driver by, guess what? Crashing and being with stupid drivers!
you will make mistakes,
you will act reckless,
and if you have a rx-7 while doing this, you will ruin a perfectly good car!

Don't by a RX-7

yeah i refrained from commenting on that, but anyway

YET ANOTHER REASON, DONT BUY A RX-7! you don't know anything about them so there is no reason to even think about buying one until you have read enough on these forums to get the equivalent to a college degree in rotary engine service and repair!

Yeah, yeah, yeah. blah, blah, blah. Are you picking up on the resentments here?
It's just jealously. You've got an opportunity for a great car they never had when they were young and they're trying to throw a wet blanket over you.

Me, I'm happy for you. Go 4 it! Let the sour apples stew in their own juices.

There is no timing belt or chain. That pretty much sums it up. Seems like a strange question for someone who works in a "car" shop.

I'll put this in plain english...

Unless you know all the consequences and rewards I would highly reccomend not buying this car. You MUST know your **** ~ Basically live and breathe this car. If you though a picky materialistic girl friend was tough to deal with oh man your in for a ride.

^ 'nother Debbie Downer.

skateordie5454, you don't even have the car yet and these Captain Bringdowns have you dead or in a wreck. Jealous vultures, the bunch of 'em. Enjoy your new wheels. You're getting a great car at a fantastic bargain. Zoom, zoom.

skateordie, you have the opportunity to own a 3rd Gen. That's a rotary rocket. Sex on wheels. A mobile freaking orgasm!

It's now or never. That car will be gone to someone else. Opportunity isn't knocking. It's trying to break down your door.

Yes but its faster and probably much more dangerous to drive than a stock or slightly modded 3rd gen.

The only resentment I detect is in your post. I think very few people here are jealous of a 15-year-old buying a $5k FD. I wouldn't wish a $5k FD on anybody no matter what age. Frankly, I think people are more concerned about the prospect of yet another totaled or thrashed FD. If you look at the registered FDs thread you will see that 400-500 FD per year are now disappearing. How long do you think it will be before a $5k FD bought by a 15-year-old will be added to that list?

^ Now moconnor has left the ranks of the surrogate dads and appointed himself the RX-7 police. There's always someone trying to tell you what to do skateordie.

Haha... man FD for the first car; not because its dangerous cause stock they are not that fast, but just from a reliability standpoint is probably the worst choice you can possibly make.

I had an Iroc with a 350 when i was in highschool .that thing brought sex to me whenever i started it. lol. i never drove it much unless i had someplace nice to go and i had a hyundai for a daily driver. if you are responsible enough to get a car that is nice (not saying a 5K fd is going to be). get a car you can beat around in first. well maybe not first , but at least soon after. and for all you that think a rotary is a creature from outer space... I do not find them that much different then a v8 to work on. the run much the same way and anyone with a good service manual can re build them. directions are not impossible to look at.
i would sugjest you get a corvette just in spite of these guys. you will have a better resale value and parts are super cheap. or go on ebay and get a decent first or second gen. for 5 grand you can get a really nice one of either of those.
all it boils down to is pride in the car.
JConn ... you would make a terrible suicide counseler lol.

well... i live in the country in indiana too, and i have been driving since i was 10, was doing motor swaps when i was 14 and i KNOW i wasn't anywhere ready to own a rx-7 until i was out of highschool.

EDIT: also 3 years of driving experience still isnt enough for anyone to own a sports car and drive it without crashing. and driving up and down back country roads every now and then does not give you extensive driving knowledge.

This kid may be young, but he ain't stupid. He can get a running FD for $5k. That's bare shell money. Eat your hearts out, suckas. He's good 2 go.
