Tapped sensors for gauges. car runs like crap

I just got three new gauges, boost, water temp, and oil temp. Today we tapped the water temp sensors in the thermostat housing (took off intercooler and piping) and tee-ed off the oil pressure and oil temp. Went to start up the car and made a loud noise and it's smoking really bad. Any ideas on what it is?

Let me explain this better:

I bought three new gauges: boost, water temp, and oil temp. We installed the vaccum line for the boost gauge no problem. As for the water temp sender, we took off the intercooler and the piping, drained antifreeze, and drilled and tapped for sender. We got all the metal shavings away from the car and re-installed everything again. Then we got a Tee to put the oil temp and oil pressure and put it where the oil pressure originally went stock. We decided to start up the car and it made a loud noise and smoked very badly. Does anybody know what it might be?

I know you might have already checked, but did you recheck that your MAP sensor is plugged in? If not, then that will probably be the issue. Tell us more about what is wrong with the car -- what is it idling at, what vaccum, etc.

Temp gauges need to be in the flow of the fluid -- a T in the oil pressure sensor hole won't read the correct temp. Unfortunately, I don't have any good suggestions as to where it could be installed. I was facing the same problem and couldn't find a sender block for the oil filter pedestal that works with the FD setup. I'm going to drill and tap my aftermarket oil thermostat, but that won't help if you are running stock coolers.

I never looked at the GReddy one. Is it just a sensor block, or is it part of a kit to remote-mount the oil filter, etc?

I just found the GReddy one (under "Cooling" in the greddy.com online store). Part #12002733, $68. Looks good -- finally some way to mount oil temp senders!

Thanks maxcooper, I'm gonna have to buy one cause the tee was the only thing I could think of that might work. NE ways I checked the MAP sensor and spark plugs, looks like everything is connected. No hoses are off or anything. This is probably a newb question but I can't figure out what else could make it run like it is. Does the sender lines have to be connected to the gauges for the car to run right? Because my vacumm line for boost and the oil pressure line is off the senders and gauges?

I went out there again and the spark plug wire was a little off on the plug. I pushed it back in. (only about 1/4" it pushed in.) The car acts like it doesn't want to idle, you have to keep on the gas to keep it going. I didn't try starting it after I pushed the spark plug wire in. Do you think that's what it is?

Quite possible it was just the spark plug wire.

But, you should use a different source for the boost gauge than the stock MAP line. Boost gauges leak a little air and adding the volume of the boost gauge line will mess up the signal to the MAP sensor even if it was air tight. Use one of the nipples from the outside of the bends (above the turbos) for the boost gauge, Using the MAP sensor line could be the cause of your problems, too.

Yes, I used the nipple on the UIM for the boost. I was just saying that I checked the MAP sensor to see if something got knocked off when putting the oil temp sender in. Problem solved : ) There was a vaccum hose that came off and I didn't see it when I checked. My baby is running great again (it's smoking a little but hopefully I just have to warm it up.) Now for the oil pressure/temprature problem. I'll order the GReddy tap block now, do you think it would work if I have a K&N oil filter?
