Talk about terrible...

My cousin who lives in western flordia owns a 1994 fd. He called me today saying that he parked next to a fire hydrant not noticing it and got out and went out on his boat for the day, only to coe back to find that the building across the street had a fire. When the fire fighters arrived, the closest hydrant was next to his car, and according to laws they can do anything to the car to have the hoses pass by because its illegal to park infront of one. So they dragged the hoses over his hood, roof, they i guess got happy and busted out the drivers side and passenger window and put a hose over there, and he suffered dents to the hood and scratches all over the entire car as well as a busted turn lamp....

Not to mention his car was towed afterwards... I don't really want to ask him for pics because hes pretty pissed tight now, but ill ask him for some once he calms down. My story for the day.

Angry

that sounds like bs to me (not the story, the fact that they can do that)... they should only be able to do that if someone or something pays for damages to the cars/trucks... was there a no parking sign or anything to hint to people not to park there? was the curb painted, etc....

Oh hell, that happens all the time around St. Louis. Sadly enough, you need to be kind of *dumb* to park next to a hydrant.

They figure a two-foot-tall piece of yellow-painted CAST IRON is enough of a hint, btw.

too bad the rx7 was owned by a BLIND MAN....
now lets say that the car was in a position where the firefighters weren't able to use the hydrant...then what would you say as the owner of the car.."I'm sorry I had so much fun boating, I didn't notice that big building ablaze."
i always thought it was illegal to park next to a fire hydrant, marked or not

Well... here in Broward county the fire hydrants arent yellow... they are a dark red and white... so it is very easy to not see one of them. If it was a bright yellow one that Miami has then hes just blind.

Wow, can't belive they can do that to the car...
Couldn't they have ran the hose around the car instead?
I think that the firefighter were just pissed (rightly so) that he parked in front of a hydrant. They knew that they can **** up your car if they have to. So they were pissed and just wanted to **** up your car too.
Idunno, just rambling. But that's what you get for parking in front of a hydrant...

They probably were pissed, parking in front of a hydrant displays a bit of disregard for the safety and wellbeing of others. AFAIK there is a minimum 10ft distance on each side of the hydrant that is illegal to park in. I feel bad that his car is f'ed up but I don't feel sorry for him, he asked for it if you ask me.. not a smart move.

Look at it this way. If the car is blocking access to the fire hydrant then **** the car. If my wife was trapped in a fire and there was a McClaren obstructing fire then **** the McClaren. I hope your friend learned his lesson and no one died because of him being a dumbass.
