taking loooong to crank

noticed lately the car is taking a bit longer to crank over and this morning, it took a good 5-7secs before cranking over. Newly charged battery, new alternator and newly build motor...where should i look at?

I have a similar problem. Brand new battery, and alternator output is good. Sounds weak and takes a little bit of cranking to start. Subbing to see what is posted.

From the bit of searching I've done, a low compression motor (90 or less psi) could cause this (probably not your problem since your motor is new).

I have the same issue once in a while as well. I don't know about you, but mine happens more often when it is cold and wet outside.

Check your plug and change it if need.

Mine takes quite a while these days too and I'm about the change the plugs and wires. Pretty sure that's all it is at least in my case.

Could also be the fuel system depressurizing while the car sits. To rule that out, jumper the F/P and GRND pins in the diagnostic box to run the fuel pump - run it for 5-10 seconds, then see if it starts up normally or takes a while.

If it is depressurzing, it's either a fuel leak or something with the fuel pump and assembly.

My baby was doing the same thing. Taking longer and longer to turn over until finally she didn't even start and would just crank away. When my bud was over helping me diagnose (fuel/spark etc) he noticed the microtech dash display wasn't picking up any rpms while cranking. Uninstalled the crank angle sensors, cleaned them and the harness plugs, tested their resistance (perfectly within spec) and reinstalled. She starts every time now. I think it was just 20 years of crap that built up. Not the original engine but I know the sensors were reused.

so today the car kept cranking and just would not turn over. towed it to the shop, will update on cause and fix. my guess is something to do with the fuel and plugs.
