Tacking noise?

I just got my FD yesterday and have been driving it around since then. Today I noticed a tacking sound when I stop the car. It tacks like 6 or 7 times and then seems to go away. I also noticed that the noise goes away If I give the car a little bit of gas. At first I would here it every now and then, but lately its every time I’m driving for a little and then stop. If anyone has any idea what this could be or what I could check for I would appreciate it. Thanks.

We need more detail then that. What area of the car is it coming from? does it only do it when you hit the brakes? or when you hit the gas? Happen at certain RPMS? how many miles are on the car? what year? And by tacking im guessing you mean "Ticking"? What modifications are done to it?or is it Stock?

It is a 1993, and has 119k. It sounds like the noise is coming from the front, and it happens when the car is coming to an idle. The car is stock except for exhaust.

try popping the hood. Now with you stanidng in front of the car rev the motor by pulling on the throttle cable@the throttle body. Then listen closely to where the ticking is coming from... Report back.

I tried that but by the time I pop the hood and get to the front of the car the noise stops, and it does not do it when I rev it, just when I drive it and then I stop and the car comes to an idle I here the noise. I am not sure if the miles are on the stock motor.

If it sounds like it's coming from behind the gauges, it's almost certainly the brake line check valve. There is a TSB on it....you essentially place a rubber mounting nut between the line and the firewall. Cheap and easy and it works.

Here's an old thread that contains the info:

It sounds like it is coming from the front pass. side of the car. Also I don't think this has any thing to do with this but the car has a light on that says 4W ABS.

And i would take it to a brake shop and have them take a look at your ABS if your not Mechanically inclined (witch is sounds like your not- no offense).
