tach stopped working

i dropped my motor back in and my tach and water temp gauge dont work. i did get a nice zap after i reconnected everything i accidently shot some spark betseen the alternator and smoething else and i was surprised i didnt blow the main fuse when it started up, but now that the tach and water temp gauge dont work im guessing i did blow one. any one know where these are? also, why would it only be those 2 gauges?

check the meter fuse (15A) first. I'm trying to locate a short that causes loss of my gauges.

you zapped the ALT between something else? can you tell me more about it. Was there any other strange occurances? The likelyhood of shorting gauge wires are minimal. I recommend unplugging all cables to the fuse box and start from the Meter fuse.

nope nothing else strange occured besides my coolant and tach gauges not working. since i did just drop the motor in, where are the wires/plugs for these 2? where does the tach reading come from? i installed an msd hyfire 6 on the leading plugs, would that affect the tach?

oo i almost forgot. my fans dont come on either. im sure , for the coolant gauge atleast, that it must just not be plugged in right somewhere. where is the sensor for this? since the fans dont come on then obviously the ecu or w/e switches the fans on isnt getting the singal from the temp sensor. also, the fans didnt turn on with the blower on full blast?

can anyone help? the tach jumps when the starter cranks, and when i turn the steering wheel. in both instances it jumps to about 800-100 and dances for the moment. then it falls back to zero where it remains while it's running.

download the FSM if you don't have it already, check the sticky posted at the 3rd gen threads. there are a couple of h20 sensors that affect the fan relays. you could also search the forums for those (plenty on them). as for your bouncing tach, maybe interference from your ignition wires - maybe poor electrical grounding.
