Tach cuts out after 1k

I just bought a FD, and its in good shape except the tach cuts out and kinda wabbles back and forth and wont read over 1.5k. could it be a bad coil or a loose solder point? i searched the forum and didnt see this same problem, but i did find a few other sremotly imilar problems that didnt answer it for me. plz help!

There is a tach sensor on the passenger side of the transmission, about halfway up and 12" forward of the shifter. See if there is damage there.

I looked didnt see any damage anywhere under the car at all, a buddy i met last night told me it might be the trailing coil. How would I go about checking to see if it is?

Sorry I was off the mark there. The tach does in fact rely only on the crank sensor. Check out page C1-9 of the body electrical manual. You can download it off the sticky thread.

These tach's are well known to be flaky (their teenagers after all!) you can struggle with it or replace it.
