T56 tranny to FD

Anyone make a adapter plate to bolt a T56 6 speed to the 13B-rew? If so, do they also make a power plant frame and driveshaft to go along with it? Thanks for any info.

Why? The gearing is all wrong. There are a ton of threads on this, and as I recall some people claim there are companies out there that do make one, I've never seen it.

If you could get something geared to 145-150 that would be awesome.

Ok, but those doing a 20B conversion often put a T56 on it becasue the stock tranny can't cope with the torque so....

Neither was the OEM 5-speed...

Also, you might want to check your dyno chart, if you have one. I'll bet your power is already falling off before 8,000 rpm, and T56s have been proven to handle 8,000 rpm just fine.

Thanks Jimlab, thats all I was looking for, it was recommended to look into by Ray anyway as I keep shearing off the teeth in third gear rolling into full boost. Something to handle the torque, as I am making decent torque. I also have found that they make a T5 setup as well (gforce)
My torque drops off before that anway

Talk to AutoIllusions. I believe he had a custom bellhousing milled from billet aluminum to adapt a Richmond 6-speed to his 20B. The Richmond has far more ratios available than the T56 anyway.

Greg,
Perhaps you can have the suspect gears replicated out of a stronger forged metal. As long as you had a good gear on hand for a cad model to be based on I don't see why it couldn't be done fairly affordably. There are tons of companies that do this type of precision prototyping and machining and their engineers should be able to address any expansion/clearance concerns etc. That is assuming that you can order these parts from Mazda individually....

Here's a list of places to start with:

Hopefully you or Ray can make several sets and spread the wealth, not to mention that the project may be able to pay for itself ;o).

I wonder if there is a difference in the inertia between the stock FD trans and the T-56.

For example, my buddies who drag race 455ci Buicks, are using the 200-4r GM transmission in applications where previously they used big Turbo 400 transmissions.

The advantage is there is less internal drag in the transmission, the internal parts are smaller/lighter and therefore the transmission absorbs less power, therefore more efficient.

I think the same analogy would apply in manual transmissions as well. In fact I know this to be a fact.

The rotary doesn't have the torque of a piston engine which is even more of a disadvantage when using a bigger, heavier transmission.
I'm sure there are other alternatives to the Richmond/T56.

You have any references to back that up? I'm kind of doubting an RX-8 tranny will hold up to big turbo rotaries anymore than the stock FD tranny.

A modified RX-8 6-speed transmission, not stock. And they're not a drop-in replacement for the FD 5-speed.

Exactly - a stock RX-8 transmission might as well be made of glass if you're running 425ft-lb.

I would look into the G-Force T-56 setup. Those guys are just down the road from me, and I know one of the engineers there. They should be able to supply that bellhousing without too much trouble.

The prices are arround the $6000

First you'd have to buy one, then have it modified, then figure out how to support the differential after the PPF is eliminated, and finally, you'd have to have the driveline modified. If you're going to go to all that trouble, why not just buy a real 6-speed in the first place?
